The audio/video threads do not seem to get much traffic so I am posting this in general. Does anyone have actual experience with dash cams that record video when the car starts-for example Garmin Dash Cam or Cobra or BlackVue. I know there are cheaper no name brands available on the internet but the reviews on those seem to be poor.

 

I've used a G1W for the past 5 months with no problem. It is one of the cheaper dash cams running about $56. Here is a sample of my cam from a few months ago: I do like the G1W but am thinking about buying a Mobius cam because it is much smaller, has better firmware and has some accessories I am interested in.

I don't see a reason to buy expensive cams setups when there are much cheaper options available. Even if I have to replace my cheap cam every year, it's still much cheaper than buying an expensive cam since most personal electronics only last two or three years, plus the quality is increases so much between purchases.

A lot of the bad reviews are from counterfeits. It takes a bit of work to find the legitimate sellers and decent quality cams. techmoan is a good site for dash cam reviews.
