Bad Serpentine Tensioner Damper...Drivable?
Bad Serpentine Tensioner Damper...Drivable?
I started getting some clicking from my engine and found my tensioner was bouncing about 1/4". I freaked out and check the SC timing chain stuff and oil. I restarted the car an hour later and the damper was rock solid and it wasn't bouncing or clicking. So I ordered a new one.
Do you think it is safe to drive for the next 3-4 days until the new tensioner comes in?

If you make the belt jump..the tensioner will take a chunk out of the crank damper....about a 300-500$ item...
So taking a chance...
If you fo decide to drive....
I would suggest very gentle throttle use...very low rpms...

I'd say if you drive sedately you'll be fine for a few days. Don't wind her up, because you are likely to throw the belt.
Amazon is the cheapest place to buy the tensioner, it's the oem part. While there buy an idler pulley too & a fresh belt.

Is it possible to buy just the small damper/shock tube that's on the tensioner and replace it...instead of having to buy an entire tensioner assembly?
I'm sure someone has to make a replacement...right?
