08 R56 Non S to S Swap

I have the part car.
Did the direct motor/ecu swap
Swapped the battery / fuel pump

The swap was fast and easy.. took less than 12 hours to take both out and put the s in with fuse box and DME

HOWEVER

The car will crank but will not fire...

Would anyone know the problem or has done this swap before.

I have the CAS out and ready to swap but i don't want to pull my car apart more if i dont have to... essentially getting fuel but no spark and all the wiring checks out.

I know many have said its useless to do this swap but the motor on my non s blew and I found a salvaged S that ran but had severe chassis damage for under 5k including shipping.

Any help will be appreciated.

temp cell: 8437434907
if anyone is willing to help over the phone

Thanks

As far as i know, on modern cars you have to swap all computers from the donor car to the new car, including the key fob and some other small stuff for the car to work properly..

I know because i swapped a '10 malibu.. You need everything swapped!

Call up the famous indie mechanics. I don't think they'd charge too much to consult with you to help diagnose the problem. A lay guy like me has nothing more to add unfortunately. =( Best of luck!

Husam, I'm just about to have all the computers behind the dash swapped... Thank you for the response hopefully I'll be done here soon and won't have to do something ridiculous like a main harness swap... Switch I'm already prepared to do.

Try looking here for shops around your area: http://www.minirepairshops.com/
sometimes people post reviews of the shops, otherwise use it as a starting point to find on yelp or google reviews.
Good luck!

Okay thanks, good backup plan I guess, I'm almost done really... I just need it to start... Turns over and gives me tons of info except why it won't start
Hooked my computer up to it and that got me no where... Need a BMW computer to do anything

You will def need the CAS, possibly the tach as well. Not sure about the other ecu's.

The only one I've had personal experience with is Wayland of Way Motor Works. 770-234-9965.

I'd also try Helix. 267 335 4337. I don't have any personal experience with them (they are across the country from me), but they chime in a lot in the forums to help people out.

If they can't help you, I'd at least think they'd be able to point you in the right direction.

I did it! Swap from non s to s complete! Just needed to swap the key unit(CAS) and its works!

Possibly only non s to s r56 in the US? The world?

CONGRATULATIONS! Awesome. Too cool. You are a MINI revolutionary.

I hope you don't mind if I contact you for information this fall (or the next spring) when I do the same thing to my MINI...

Keep us updated on your test runs and additional modifications...

Nice job! I don't know how much the value changes, but you may want to tell your insurance co.

Ill get what I can up sure thing, it is honestly much easier than it sounds, whole thing took about 20 hours. I didn't need any special tools or computers and pulling the engines took just 2 to 3 hours per motor.
But yeah I'll do a write up as soon as I get the chance!

Of course, I'm willing to help anyone who wants it, I'm in Indiana right now with just over a foot of snow I'm assuming(-14 out so I'm not even going out)... And I'm moving to Tennessee this weekend so I'll get what I can up here asap.

And Thank you!

I really hope people realize now that anything is possible even on a budget... I didn't go over 5k on this whole build btw

Don't tell anyone... But the chassis Vin for the non s isn't changed so the insurance doesn't need to know anything about the engine under the hood, still the "same" car just with an engine that isn't blown up.

Not lying to the insurance company just not telling the whole truth... Ha

Ended up being just the CAS... That wasn't too bad to pull but is was time consuming taking the dash apart and putting it back together.

5k to build an S is a bargain, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for deals like that.
