dead N16B16 engine. options?

Hello All!

I have dead N16B16 engine from 2011 Mini cooper, it has a crack underneath of the engine block and it was running without oil some time, so now engine is stuck.

so I have some options : buy a used engine or to make repair of this one.

what do you think, which way should I go?

Well if it was run without oil everything in that engine is junk. A used engine would be a much more cost effective way to get that MINI running again.

PS Hey everybody, check the oil!

You may want to price a used engine and compare the price against a remanufactured engine from MINI. When I have checked this for customers in a shop I work in part time, I have been surprised that the cost differential is not as great as you may think. The further advantage with the engine from MINI is that it carries a warranty and with the used engine you have no idea how it was run and maintained. Just some food for thought. Good luck on your resolution of this problem.

well, the car is from insurance company, they did not check carefully before starting the engine, so now engine is dead.

personally, I'm thinking about a used engine, but there are several ways to get it

1. from Uk
2. from Europe
3. from Japan
4. From Russia

and I can get a rmfd engine from Mini, but that will cost higher price, aprox 1500$ higher then other options.

maybe some one can advise a source of used engines, so i could check the prices
