So who is this excellent driver?

Whoever this is, made the highlights of the week for Killboy on the Dragon.

Having done the Dragon a few times now and being from flat and boring Florida, I am still so confused how you can be so far over the double yellow and still turning that aggressively (The right side is loaded up and the inside rear is pretty light looking.). NHRA record holder, lol...

well obviously this is illegal and dangerous. but PERSAY, the camera man and other people were there as spotters to allow him to do this for a photo / video op. then "meh".

if that wasn't the case, this guy sucks

Look's like he has a Sneed's Speed sticker on the side. I'm sure you'll get a response. Giving him/her the benefit of the doubt, could just be a tight apex. Although I realise crossing the yellows is a no-no on the Dragon (and anywhere!).

I thought NHRA was drag racing stuff anyway... no cornering skills required? And does the '65 mean 1965?

According to Killboy it was a blind curve so I doubt this was encouraged by him.

fwiw, members of the Tar Heel MINIs have identified the owner of the MINI and have reached out to him to make him aware of the problems demonstrated in the photo. Hopefully the driver will learn from this.

I just 'love' how you old farts are wagging your fingers at this dude. You're right (I'll give you that, so don't flame me), but the guy knew exactly what he was doing and won't appreciate or listen to the nagging.

I say Bravo to the photographer. It's cool to see our cars doing crazy stuff!

Again, you're right... but rebels are gonna fly their pirate flags wether you b*tch and moan or not, so enjoy the antics!

Not an old fart here (27) but yes these antics are dangerous, but there is plenty of fun to be had in just one lane. I guess I just don't get it. (Not flaming you) Even if he knew it was clear pictures like these still surface all over and it just looks bad for the community. We are the largest car club that comes to that area every year and people will associate this incident with our 1100 hooligans that come in 700-800 cars next spring.

Isn't that what a forum is for? It's here for people to b*tch about stuff, moan, share info, etc.

As a motorcyclist, if that's a blind corner, then that driver deserves to be b*tch slapped b/c crap like that kills. If it wasn't a blind corner and you could see 2 or 3 turns ahead, then it was mostly just bad form, dumb and, yes, illegal. One could argue that it seems that he's afraid of the turn since he's so far away from the outside edge. Is he that incompetant that he can't go fast AND stay in his lane?

Haven't been through it on my Mini yet, but have been there a couple of times before. Lot's of fun to be had, and you don't have to leave your lane to do it. And yes, another old fart here.
This was on my last trip to the Dragon.

Relax. I said you were right so no need to get mad. The guy is driving crazy, but nobody wants to hear the b*tching and moaning. None of us know the situation and I figure if there was somebody camped out with a high shutter speed camera to get the shot, basic safety of making sure the road was clear may well have been taken care of by people outside the photo. Maybe I'm wrong and the guy is a jerk. Either way, I'm enjoying the photo. Yetti did it right by adding to the convo.

Motorcycle, eh? You're a braver man than I. I almost bought a Honda Shadow, but since I'm a dad and sometimes don't see motorcycles (even though I am watching for them) I decided to get 4 wheels instead of two. Even with 4 wheels there are oblivious idiots on the road. Just yesterday a Lexus SUV didn't see me and entered into my lane. I had to change lanes fast to avoid the guy running into me. Luckily I knew what was around me at the time, but if I hadn't been aware I would've had to let the guy love tap the whole drivers side of my car. Even blasting my horn the guy never saw me.

Back to the photo...

I think it'd be cool if the driver saw this and chimed in.

Beware, the internet police may end up fining him somehow. Just like all the other nonsense speeding videos that end up getting someone locked up and such.

I'm all for carving corners too, but nowadays it's just not safe to put someone else's life in jeopardy whether he knew it was safe to cross the double or not. Take it to the track if he's so high-o-mighty about his carving abilities...

Not a closed course, not a staged photo its just a very bad decision. TarHeel Mini Club will handle it with the driver but a good lesson for all.

What amazes me is everybody knows and sees that Killboy is there and taking photos and yet they continue to cut the corners. I wonder how many other corners got that treatment that there wasn't a photographer present.
I usually slow down when approaching photo op to get a better pic.

I'd do this too for a cool photo like that. So if you see me at the dragon, don't worry I won't hit you

This does not make for a cool photo! Not at all! A cool photo would have shown him in his own lane. Killboy has made a career out of taking photos of cars on the dragon. He is not there to give the all clear for someone to cut the corner like that. 98% of the corners on the dragon are blind. You can not see traffic coming the other way until it is too late. Being that far over the line it would have been a head on collision had someone come the other way. And if it was a motorcycle someone probably would have died there. People need to realize just how dangerous this is.

I'm sorry, I should have said in my opinion it's a COOL photo. You don't have to agree.

Meh, not a cool photo. Go to an autocross or attend a track day/weekend. Happens all day - as many pictures as you want.

I guess the real question is: so the photo would have been uncool to you if he had the skill to stay in lane?

Interesting logic.

And yes, I'm also a motorcyclist. And I definitely talk to people who do things like that when I'm riding.
