Electrical system energizes when opening door

Why does the electrical system energize when the driver's door is opened?

The 'P' on the automatic illuminates and stays lit and a buzz sound from an actuator happens.

What car....
Year? Model?
I would assume it is to give the car's computers a few seconds to boot...
Get ready to start....

"P" Transmission Indicator

My 2013 Paceman S has the same behavior. I can close the car, use the remote to lock it, then the Red "P" stays lit for a while.

The other odd thing is that if you have not inserted the key into the dash, when you stop and turn off the engine, the radio continues to run. You have to lock the car to turn it off. If the key is in the dash, when you remove it, accessory power turns off right away.

I am compulsive about locking the car with the remote (or the door handles) even when it is parked in the garage at night. We had battery problems on 2004 and 2008 S Minis until we learned we needed to do this.

Totally normal. The buzz is the fuel pump priming and everything else is the car "waking up". The P and the start/stop button stay lit until the car "goes to sleep".

Mine does it too. It is normal don't know why but that's how it is.

FYI: It is important to really pay attention when you are messing around with the ECU, like installing the upcoming JB+. You have to pop the hood, then lock the doors and wait for like 5 min for the car to go to sleep before installing the part.

hit the START/STOP button a second time and it'll power off. hitting the button one time turns off the engine, and a second time turns off all the accessories.

On my 2009 if you hold the stop button down for about 2-3 seconds (instead of a quick tap) when you press it to stop the car the radio etc. will turn off when you release it.

The buzz that you hear is the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel injection for a quick start (I have been told by dealer). My wife's BMW does the same thing.
