What happens when they read your key disc?

I brought my Mini in because my audio Y-Cable was defective. To get the new Y-Cable, they read my key disc....and out came out some six pages of documentation.

What type of information does the dealer get when they read the key disc? Surprised that some six pages of documents spat out.

Probably simple stuff like the VIN number and maybe CBS alerts, which they can then use to reference service documents for that VIN. When I bought my MINI i had the dealer print out the service records, so all they had to do is use the key reader and it pulled up everything done. Was this documentation for previous service or an invoice of a new Y-cable?

The six pager was right after I pulled into the check in area....before they started paperwork for the Y-Cable (the Y-Cable seized in my 30 pin iPhone port...it was stuck! The right pin wouldn't retract and took me some effort to get it out. The right push button was not pulling the pin back).

Also no prior service as I recently took delivery and had a whopping 601 miles. Still in break-in mode. Haven't even hand washed it yet since it came from the dealer.

Interesting, I don't know what the 6 pages could be for then. I guess you didn't get a chance to look at them right? Still, normally I'm pretty sure documents don't print out right when the key is inserted. At least my SA had to click a few buttons before printing out the service docs.

Sure there's 6 pages of information, but it's not all good. I've found they forgot to change the inside leg measurement from metric to inches, and I strongly disapprove of the key fob holding a record of how I voted in the last three elections.....

Angib...did you notice the tiny transmitter that sends all your data to the NSA? It really drains the battery which is why it charges in the ignition.

That must be how I got a speeding ticket. They knew to be looking for me
