Intake temp, engine temp and way to reduce heat?
Intake temp, engine temp and way to reduce heat?
So I was wondering what was the options to reduce the heat under this bonnet (mini R53 05).
I saw the M7 heatshield that covers the headers and I was wondering if if would help reduce the intake temp.
I'm open to suggestions as I'm trying to fight heat
Just to make sure.. my engine is usually between 90-110 celcius, it's normal right? and for the intake temp when it's hot outside (lets say 20-25 celcius) and I go full throttle the intake temp can go to 40-60 celcius... I just tought that it's a lot and that's why I want to reduce the heat...
I'm looking for affordable options at first, but I know that after market intercooler is an option..
thx

You live in Quebec and want to do this??? I remember what 40 below feels like.
A water/methanol injection kit will do everything you want but if the intercooler option looks expensive then there won't be a lot of room to move on options.

Also, I'm not sure what style of intercooler to choose...
I saw the water/meth option, do you have sugestion for a good kit for the r53?
And yes -40 appens during winter
hehe
You will get a lot of suggestions on intake and water/meth systems. Not quite as bad as "what oil do I use?" but close.
Back when I was shopping, general consensus on intakes was a high flow panel to replace the stock filter or the JCW cone filter were about as good as the aftermarket options available unless you wanted to open up your scoop to outside air. Since I didn't want to do that, I opted for the JCW filter (2nd gen car).
For water/meth injection, I just ordered an Aquamist HFS-4. Probably could have gone less expensive but I liked the features and was able to speak directly to the guy who designed the kit. Since you don't have a DI car, you probably don't need quite all that and there are less featured kits/other brands out there.

Did you install your Aquamist HFS-4? Any issues? Likes? Dislikes? I'm looking to install an Aquamist system in my R56 shortly.
Thanks
