New Mini ad - someone is smoking something
That ad and typically that style... if you can pick up on it seems pushed by Germany. This is seems more pushed and driven by the U.S:

I absolutely loathe this style that focuses on annoying people acting like complete morons. I see enough of it in real life, I sure don't need to be smacked in the face with it every 30 seconds when I'm watching tv to -- ironically -- escape this reality. I keep an alternate channel on the remote to flip to in a hurry for just this type of idiocy. And eSurance. And the latest cure for insomnia masquerading as an Apple ad.
Yes, there are many on my commercial hit list.

Wanna know something interesting? That ad and typically that style... if you can pick up on it, is pushed by Germany. This is pushed and driven by the U.S:

To each their own, but I'm sorry, a
? Really? Also, esurance? Those commercials are comparable? Both of these commercials are great.
I hated The Darkness and that song when it came out. I've never liked Metal (assuming you'd call them that) and despite my friends "getting it" considering the humor angle, I just wasn't interested. Now after seeing that commercial the other day I like the song.
And who hasn't driven in their car and been into some song they had cranked on the radio? Especially with a Mini? Maybe go trade it in for the Edsel you had before the Mini if you haven't.
The two guys from :35 to :38 crack me up every time. I prefer the second commercial myself though. Like the song, most of the car configurations and that pause with the fox.

both ads were great! im 25, they are aimed for people in my age group, and maybe people who want to feel like they were still in my age group. and where i live, southern california, a lot of people are smoking something!!!
I thought they were both excellent. They are current, they stood out and are memorable and you are in no doubt that they are advertising the Mini. We don't get to see those or indeed many Mini commercials in the UK. I can think of no current car advert that works as well as those 2 first examples. Not so much the second 2.
One interesting that I have noticed in many Mini adverts is that they always change the bulbs on the side/parking/city lights for LEDs. I assume that's just a smart advertising guy suggesting to Mini that LEDs look better and Mini agree to do it just for the advert.

I'm in my 50's & I liked them both, don't see anything in premoting a little fun, besides thats how I feel when I drive my car!
To be fair though, I guess I should add "Feveriously Grasping to My Youth" to my sig.

Man, people take ads too seriously. And I work in the industry.
Seriously, MINI's brand is to be quirky. They want quirky people driving their cars. They want to separate from other small cars by having that oddball, sporty persona. I think they've done a pretty solid job.

i do think that mini targets the 25-40 age group, so maybe folks outside of that have a harder time relating and/or getting their advertising.
I appreciate the comment by MrCooperS that the ad I linked to was pushed in Germany. It may be more cultural (more, not exclusively) than age related. Germany was gaga over David Hasselhoff music after all, so obviously our Teutonic friends have different tastes than I do.
