Does anyone else got confirmation that we will have inventory of these DRL's in the US from their dealer?

Call your dealer and get confirmation yourself. That way you will have more faith . Just give them the part number and ask when they show future inventory. Part number is at beginning of thread.

I've read reports from about ten people who have fitted these lights and of those two people (me and one other) have had problems with a faulty control unit - the electronics box that controls the lights and also tells the car that the missing bulbs haven't blown.

That's quite a defect rate, if it's more than just a random event, and as I had fitted the lights myself, the only way to get the control unit replaced was to put the car into the dealership on a parts-warranty claim - meaning if they reckoned I had caused the problem, I would have to pay them to find it. In the event, the workshop reckoned it was a faulty unit and so the replacement was fitted at no cost to me (except not having the car for two days).

But it does mean that this is an item that might be best bought from a local dealer, rather than mail order. It may technically be true that any dealership can carry out this parts-warranty work, but I wonder if that would still be true in practice.

I think that will depend on how much they decide to sell for in the states. I'm a little scared to find out.

This is the first thread I've seen on the internets about wanting DRLs. Just about every other discussion I see is how to disable the things, and as a motorcyclist, I understand that.

Just wondering why so many Mini owners want them on their car?

Go back to the top of page one.
1. They are VERY cool looking. Like angel eyes on BMW's
2. You aren't forced to have your headlights and parking lights on all the time if you want DRL's.

Not at the price point that is anticipated and also because the install does not seem to be a straight forward plug and play.

We can only hope for better install instructions on US product.

OEM fog lights will always cost an arm and a leg and only go up in price over the years as people stocking them becomes more rare.

Turns out the blade of that red crimp clip that joins the blue wire with the gray one wasn't pushed in far enough to make a good connection between the two wires. I un-latched the red crimp clip, used some pliers to push the blade down as far as it would go, then rolled up some electrical tape to wedge between the top of the blade and the swinging door of the crimp clip so the blade wouldn't work itself back out over time.

A multimeter confirmed that where there wasn't any continuity between the two wires before, there was now.
From my experience with these from various retrofit kits from different automakers, it is best to use pliers to squeeze the door all the way down until it snaps all the way around. That is when the connection becomes secure and you won't need the electrical tape in the middle. Sometimes you just have to do the top half, then the bottom half and then double check again. A again the red flap is suppose to be flush with the rest of the body.

Just my opinion ........

A MINI is not all that large a vehicle so the more (Attention) one can provide to other drivers the better.

The stock MINI already has DRLs. People want this particular set for styling, not function.
