Your warranty coverage surprises: good and bad
Your warranty coverage surprises: good and bad
Could you please share with us things/repairs you were surprised that WERE covered by MINI's warranty and/or maintenance plan...as well as things you were surprised to find WERE NOT covered?
Thanks...
Thanks...
Not necessarily surprised it WAS covered, per se, but surprised they replaced the door sill trim pieces (the metal bits) that were coming unglued during a routine service visit without having to be asked to do so.
Also not surprised (as others had it done before) that they repaired / replaced my leather seat bolster due to premature wear, but think that's awesome... Many (most?) brands would call it the owner's fault and not do anything about it.

Actually I just went back to my stock air box with panel filter, and something was broke off the air box housing connecting to the air duct tube.
And...they tried to tell me it wasn't warrantied since it was broke, but come to find out, it is warrantied and they said no charge or anything. Not bad Motor City, well played

It's a bit of mixed bag but the front wheel arches were replaced under warranty due to cosmoline stain from hood.
Goo was coming out when my 2011 MCS was newer, and I was told by SA just clean regularly, and if the stain remains, MINI will replace the trims under warranty, but it's a one-time only so wait for a while, at least a summer or two to make sure all cosmoline is out.
I took in after two summer told the SA (different person) the previous story and she said OK. Car came back with just "cleaned" trims with the residue exactly like when I dropped her off, with some extra whitened surface maybe due to their cleaning attempt.
I wasn't happy with the result so I brought her in again, talked to different SA (previous two SAs were both gone from dealership). He said due to cosmoline trim swap is a "gray zone" of warranty coverage, and surprised to hear about my original story. Sounded like he had a bit of hard time to get the replacement authorized, but it seems he pushed it hard for me, and it was successful.
Then to my surprise, The new arch trim had small cutouts where cosmoline would drip so I guess it won't become a problem again. (2013 or 2012 model I saw at the service area also had the newly designed trim with cutouts)

I seem to have an issue with my axle seal leaking. First attempt was the seal. It leaked again and now the axle and seal was changed. I was told if it still leaks they may have to change the transmission. Car has 3,500 miles, and I hope its fixed because I love it.
Not warranty. Being an 07 and no book available I bought the extended maintenance plan. It was in the dealer at 78k for brakes. At 81k the alternator belt broke. Which they did then replace under the plan. But it resulted in a $300 tow I had to pay.
That was a little frustrating.
