Aero Grill On My MINI?
Aero Grill On My MINI?
So I like the look of the black aero grills, but I'm not sure they will fit my MINI. I have a 2004 MINI Cooper (Non-S). The only ones I see for the 2004 are for "S" models. Are there any for Non-S models, and where could I find these? Would this install be very difficult for a newbie like me? Thanks! (I have searched BTW).
They do look very nice and will fit the Base MINI Cooper R50 R52 ( Non S ) as well as R52 R53 S : The bottom one will require a little modification to fit stock bumper.

Very Nice looking 1st Gen Grille.
Here is a link to the install: Click Here.
Thanks and post pics when you get it done.

Outmotoring- Aero Grill kit
WayMotoringWorks- Aero Grill kit
MiniMania- Aero Grill kit
Those are the ones I have seen online. I have read that the top front bummer requires modifications to fit the non-Aero Kit stock bumper. Extensive cutting and trimming is required for proper fitment.
They sell them separately if you just want to do the top one. I have seen people do the top and plasti-dip the chrome on the bottom black.
If you know what I mean. I'm sure that some other people can chime-in on this topic. Hope this helps.

I've installed several sets of these for folks over the years (and de-botched a couple too)
The cutting is not all that big of a deal. You need to cut some away from the backside of the new lower piece and adjust the tabs on that piece ... you may decide to adjust the slots in the bumper cover those tabs fit into. All of this can be done with a Dremel tool (adjustable speed is recommended) a cut off wheel, and a cutter bit. Work slow so you CUT and don't melt anything. Cut a little, test fit, cut some more. Easy to cut more but hard to put some back.
The DIY recommends taking the bumper cover off and I do it that way myself altho you COULD do without. (it is not hard to remove). The stock lower grill trim that you need to remove is in part held on with double sided tape and you need to pry that piece off. I find that working from the back ... if I slip, the scratch is on the BACK of the bumper! (use of a heat gun / good hair drier is also useful here)
If you have any specific questions feel free to PM....
or bring it by ... I'll put it on. You buy lunch . . .
