Insurance repairs

Thought I'd run this by you guys to get your thoughts. I was recently involved in a front end collision where someone cut me off, due to the nature of the hit it was deemed my policy would pay for the other drivesr repairs. As a result of the accident, my two front tires have air bubbles in practically the same location. I also had to have my front right strut plate replaced as it was bent. My tires are about 6 months old, and prior to this I had no issues with the vehicle. I've paid for these repairs out of pocket becuase Geico seems to think that these were not due to the accident though I've had the car inspected at my independent shop and the local pep boys for the tires and they seem to think it is.

Any thoughts/suggestions on how to fight this with Geico? Currently I'm awaiting my wonderful damage adjustor to look at the actual strut plate which I dropped off at the body shop earlier this week. Time to switch insurance!

So he cut you off and then you rearended him? Wait for the adjuster to look at it and get a couple of tire shops to support your info in writing on the bubbles being from the accident.

Did you call the police so they could write an accident report?

Was the police involved in this? When I got into my "accident" the police came and did a police report and my mom just gave it to the insurance agent then from there the insurance took care of everything. You should get a police report and show it to whatever insurance you have. Hope I helped.

In Philly unless someone is injured or either car is not drive able the police does not come out, we called and filed a police report though. I'm being told these are "maintenance items" and thus are my responsibility to take care of them. Even though I'm about 99% sure these were overlooked by the adjuster and the body shop working for Geico.

I am really sorry to hear about your MINI and also about your insurance not cooperating with you. Thats why you should switch to AllState! "You're in good hands!" :P jk. No but seriously I hope everything works out for you.

This is beyond frustrating. Honestly, if I were recieving answers that made sense and made me feel like they did their due diligence and this is honestly not something that my policy is responsible for paying then I wouldn't have an issue, I've already paid for these things to be addressed out of my pocket. The level of unpressionalism by the adjustors supersvisor acting as if I am asking him to pay for an oil change. I just had my car serviced a month before this happened, my tires rotated.. my tires are 6 months old and no damage was noted to the suspension. Now my tires need replacing, one of my strut plates is bent, and my cars alignment is out of order.. yet this is a maintenance issue.

IME what you have is 'supplemental damage' or additional things found after repairs began. IME an adjuster would go to the body shop and review . . . no big deal.

All of this is hind sight or thoughts for tomorrow but won't impact your current situation:

I've had many folks I know relate experiences that say G is a great insurance company ..... until you have a claim.

On the other hand if you research insurance companies there are reviews that specifically target customer satisfaction after making a claim .... it is worth looking into

I have USAA and their rating on this metric is very high but not everyone can get USAA insurance, and if you do something dumb they will dump you in a second .. which I don't fault them for but is just a warning. I don't mention as an advertisement but a comment that rates ... or what company dad had ... ain't the only way to choose an insurance company. Let's face it, there are two times most of us think about our auto insurance: when the bill comes .... and when we see the dent!

Some want to be super happy at the lowest number possible on the former

but get distressed down the line when the later pops up . . .

We are only hearing "your side" so we have to take it all at face value. It sounds to me like you were at fault according to Geico. I'd have your local shop talk to the adjuster. If you still don't get satisfactory results then switch to another provider.

You are absolutely right, I got with geico because at the time it was the lowest rate, haven't had any issues and to be honest customer service up until this point was great. In any case once everything is settled with the reapirs i'll be switching

@devicemanager, me being at fault wasn't the question, whether I was at fault or not shouldn't have any bearing on fixing the damages that were caused due to the accident. I've already paid my deducible which was my responsibility.

I'd sure want to know if I was at fault or not. Being at fault will count against you when and if you switch providers. Why are you paying a deductible if you paid for your own repairs?

It was deemed my fault beacause of the point of impact. Fine, I can accept that and any increases to my premium as a cause. The cosmetic damage on the car (bumper/hood) were fixed beautifully.. no complaints there. There are mechanical issues after the accident, that is what is not being covered and I am going back and forth with Geico about.

Wait I understood it wrong, sorry. So they found more problems after your car has been repaired. Let me tell you my experience because it was similar. I guess this is where insurance coverages come in. I don't know much about insurance but back when I crashed my car the bill was $6900 to repair everything. Now good thing my mom has "full coverage" on my car. Because of all the delays my bill went up to from $6900 to $8300 because the shop told me they found more problems as they were fixing up my car, hence all the delays I went through. My insurance still covered that. My insurance company is AllState and no I am not advertising, just sharing my experience.

I personally have USAA, and I love them for all of my services. They are very customer oriented, and very helpful. They bring up items of concern sometimes before I even know they might be a problem area. Additionally, after I had my accident 4 years ago, they were prompt and took care of everything right from the get go. No complaints whatsoever.
