2003 Mini Cooper S Supercharger

I have removed my super charger on my 2003 Mini cooper. Not really sure how to tell if it is needs bearings or what grease or oil to use. Also having problems finding parts at a fair price. Anyone have any ideas.

More information would be useful. Why did you remove it?

The only thing you will find is the possibility for bearings to rebuild the nose cone, that is about it. You can open the box to see if there is oil in it, and if not, you will need a new SC. They are generally not serviceable.

There is a supercharger rebuilding kit on eBay for $139.00 with the bearings and seals. It also comes with the right oil.

As noted you didn’t say why you pulled the supercharger. There are two small plugs front and rear that is where the oil goes. But note that it does not take much.

One other thing worth saying is that it takes a bit of experience to rebuild a supercharger which is why the cost is not insignificant for a rebuild.

Good luck.

Just an FYI, but that kit is worthless if the oil has run out of the box and destroyed the gears for the water pump, hence the reason we have been asking.

I removed it because it was starting to make noise and I did not want to destroy it. I have not taken the nose cone off yet to see if the unit has oil in it or not. The veins still look like they are in good condition and the water pump gear is in good shape. Thanks for the info on where to purchase the rebuild kit.

I appreciate the quick repsonse as well as the caveats.

Was there oil where the gear was? That should be filled with oil. The pic below shows one that is trashed.

Yes there was some, but not a lot. I assume since the oil fill hole is so low there won't be much and the meshing of the gears keeps the other gear lubricated. Both gears are in good shape. No sharp edges or metal dust.

Should be quite a bit though. I didn't do mine, my friend did, but the good news is that your gears are good. That is generally what fails on the SC.
