HELP! DIYing CALIPER REBUILD, got in trouble w/ DUST BOOT
Hi, SOS from another mini maniac here in Canada.
I cooked my brake during a track day earlier,
relized that the dust boot has been partially melted/torn due to the heat.
So I bought the rebuild kit from a local dealership,
just started the job...
I took the caliper out of the braket,
removed the piston,
cleaned and installed the inner seal into the cylinder,
and then installed the new dust boot to the piston,
slided the piston(with dust boot on) all the way into the cylinder!
and at the last stage,,,,,
I realized that the dust boot is not just goes in place,
it supposed to be kinda clicked into the position in the cylinder wall..
It looks easy but the reality is the opposit...
I've seen/heard that this job(fitting the dust boot into the cylinder at last) is easy and you can just put something dull and hammer it and it's done!
BUT my R56 LCI Cooper S is not...
It looks like basically the rubber boot itself is little too soft to force it into the cylinder.. I am trying to squeez it with flat driver head but still can't see the end...
ANYBODY know the procedure? tools needed? am I doing something wrong? ANYTIPS granted plz!!
I even tried putting the rubber boot itself first to the cylinder(which is easy w/o the piston) and putting the piston through the boot, but still not possible... piston is pushing the boot into the cylinder with this method...
Now I just put my wheel with the brake line disconnected, and the caliper is on my dest right beside of me;;;
