Limited editions?

If there is a thread for this, I apologize.

If a mini is one of a limited number, where do you go to "prove" that? For example, if I was selling my car in future and wanted to list it as a limited run where do I find that info?

And is there a way to find what number it was in the limited run?

Unless your car is a John Cooper Works GP then it's not a numbered limited edition. Those are the only numbered MINIs out there.

There are several different special editions, but only 1 limited numbered edition. Well two when the new John Cooper Works GPs are delivered...

The Goodwood was also a limited edition, they only made 1000 of them.

That makes the GP and the GP2 common, didn't they make 2000 of each of them?

Forgot all about the Goodwood it's so rare...

And I wouldn't consider 2,000 worldwide common... Especially when global sales that year were around 135,000 total...

I believe the Last of the Supercharged Official 100 convertibles were also numbered

I believe the "Last of the Supercharged Edition" was a MINI USA creation, based on a MINI R52 with JCW and Sidewalk packages, done at the port with special badging and stripes. Same idea as the Clubman Rally Edition and Laurel Edition. Not the same as a factory limited edition car.

More rare than GP, GP2, and MINI Inspired by Goodwood is the JCW World Championship 50 Edition (WC50). Only 500 world-wide, only 50 imported into the US. I was the original owner of #425 until recently.

My other question: how does insurance deal with problems that people have (such as accidents/totaling) with limited editions/numbered vehicles?

Obviously, they can't be easily replaced, even with a newer year model. So what is their process?

Very wrong. There are quite a few numbered limited editions. Goodwood, MC40, MC50, Launch Edition, JCW Competition (only 64 of those!)... well heck that's what I can think of offhand.

There are others that were special editions and limited to a small number of cars (like the Laurel Edition and Rallye Edition Clubman and Last of the Supercharged) but were not individually numbered.

I stand corrected.

Good question, hopefully will never need to find the answer!

On the GP1 and GP2, there are parts specific to those cars which cost more to repair/replace. Most of those parts should be available in the insurance company estimator's database, since there is a part # from MINI. In general, they should pay whatever the repair costs are from an approved shop, although the initial repair estimate may be low.

Now if you totalled a GP or a Goodwood, that could get tricky. You probably need to negotiate a bit by showing the value of similar cars in the marketplace.

Thank you for the answer--and your WC50 was gorgeous!
