Snow

Today I drove Luigi for the 1st time in snow.. and it was pretty sweet!
I was surprised at how well it handled the snow, I drove from Philly up to the Lehigh Valley to visit my parents and they seemed to get a lot of snow, it was fun being on the turnpike surrounded by bloated SUVs!

Just thought i'd share.

I also just took my first trip in the snow.
Yesterday I drove from NYC to Watkins Glen NY, usually a 4 1/2 hr trip.
It took me a little over 6 hrs. with one stop for coffee at Roscoe NY. It was an interesting trip. My snow tires performed well. I just wish I had LSD in my MCSc.

Drove mine yesterday morning as well. However here in Jersey it was washed away within an hour when it switched over to rain.

Yup - that's the look of a happy winter MINI.
Mine had the same face yesterday.
Drove up the Taconic (NY) yesterday - 2-3 inches of new snow. Snow tires and DTC, passed many a SUV.

Had our first snow yesterday, only about an inch on the side roads.

Have to say I was incredibly paranoid, it was a short 15 minute trip but I passed 3 accidents with SUVs that fail to realize its all wheel drive not all wheel stop.

So, I it take it that you and your MINI did fine?
Trust your MINI and you will be fine

no summer performance tires, though. They are no-go in the snow on any car.

Peanut did great able to pick up my son from friends house no problem.
Funny when I saw my model for the first time at car show people kept saying you can't have that car in ny because of the snow it's too low to the ground , definitely felt better than my Grand Prix.

We've gotten around a foot in the last week here in western mass. I was out playing in the snow during the first storm and was very impressed with Go-kart's performance in the white crap. Really solid feeling in the slushy ruts during the storm, and the Hankooks were just as impressive making first tracks in a few parking lots I had to investigate.

Glad it went well and you are more comfortable with your MINI. BTY - I didn't see you are from NY...same here and I go to ski areas in this car. I go looking for a good snow storm

I grew up in North Dakota, so I've had plenty of experience driving all types of vehicles in the snow. The snow and conditions out here in Washington are different, of course, but I post every chance I get about how good MINIs are in the snow! I have an '02 R50 with 195/75-15 Continentals and hands down the MINI is the best car I have ever driven in the snow. Add a pair of chains and the MINI is virtually unstoppable!

I agree, LSD is so helpful in the snow. The combination of real snow tires and an LSD turns a MINI into a snowmobile.

what chains do you use? There have been others who have asked. I know with the 205x17s it seems that it would be hard to make anything fit. Do you think they would fit with the 195x16s?

I have never been a fan of snow. Yesterday a group of us with our wranglers went up into some trails with snow. My jeep is lift and 35inch tires, half way up on incline started sliding back iffy buddy was not there I would have went off a cliff @1000 ft drop. So I know just because you have 4x4 and rock crawling tires don't mean you can drive in snow.
Good to hear my mini should be ok.

I live in the Lehigh Valley as well! I left mine in the garage all week & drove the wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. Just washed the Mini & wanted to keep it clean.
