Horrible Resale Value
It's not just Mini. I have purchased and traded several high optioned cars. It seems to me when you are paying $40K for a car that starts at $25K from a resell perspective, everything over the average price people by that model for, say $32K, is gone.
There are of course some exceptions but unfortunately the Mini isn't one. And whom ever said about the JCW not being recognized is true. I was searching for a used JCW car and had trouble finding one. Mostly because using autotrader I found I had to look at the pictures of cars since when I bought mine there were three lists within 50 miles but the write-ups didn't even mention they were JCW cars.

Resale
It does appear that parts for MINIs are expensive. In part I think the reason is related to the uniqueness of the brand. As for for aging, there are always more to fix as a car ages and the fixes become more expensive. I have a 14 yo A4 that I just know will cost me $1500 per year in repairs. It is still fun to drive even with 150k miles and repair cost is cheaper than the replacement cost.
I can only speak for my car and my experience...
My car is a 2009 Factory JCW with all options that you can think of except for the HK sound system. It even has the most expensive interior (redwood lounge leather). 50K miles. This car was $40.5K + Taxes - brand new. No accidents. No stories.
The values I'm getting from dealerships on trade-ins are in the range of 15K-17K.
Damn, that is low... They are saying that options loaded on the car doesn't mean much to them. Most of the numbers are based on the base model. It also seems that due to the enormous number of minis for sale, this tends to lower the demand leaving the supply high.
Sucks...
3 years & 50K miles later, is it worth to lose almost ~$25K ?

One more thing.. What you said was true... Dealers dont care about the options for trade-ins...
Also, they were saying that it's harder to push the JCWs on a used lot since only enthusiasts buy JCWs but an average joe would be happy already with the S or justa. They also said that most people that don't even know what a JCW is, would not be willing to spend more $$$ to get a car that looks the same as the S...

I would be interested in buying your car so I wouldn't say there are no bites, but like anything else, price is the factor.
Give me your reasonable offer...
