So on my 06 MCS there are two buttons that don't do anything right now. One is the Phone button, and I have read that, its for the built in Phone capability but you have to pay for it. When I do a scan for bluetooth devices a Tom Tom comes up every time. Is it possible that the previous owner bought the piece to make it work. And what is the R/T Button?

 

Starting in '05 all MINI's came equipped with the buttons....
the kits that were sold to activate them were several hundred $$$....
several different kits were sold....but due to the $$$ they are pretty rare. a quick search using google siteserch will get you instructions...motoringfile (a mini news site) had the install PDF's and instructions on most every kit...
but if I had to bet, I'd say you have a 99% chance of no kit.
Bluetooth add-on kits, like BLUE-Parrot were common...and often had a kit to use the buttons.
I don't recall hearing anything about tom-tom...I know they makes good gps's...maybe you are seeing a gps that can link?
