Aftermarket headlight help: no high beams

Hi All,

I just purchased a set of black halo headlights from tunersdepot.com and had them installed by the dealer. Everything seemed super straight forward, plug and play. The problem is that the plugs don't have enough pins it seems. So, if you "pull" for high beams to "flash" someone, it works....but if you "push" the lever to keep the high beams on, the lights go out altogether! Has anyone had this problem? My techs are great and they spent a ton of time trying to figure it out. We even installed two different sets of light to make sure they were not defective...no dice. Thoughts? Help?

I saw these on ebay. It always had a disclaimer "high beams work on flash only". I wondered exactly what that meant. Now I know.

Let us know if you find a solution.

Hmm...interesting. I did not see them on ebay and the site I got them from did not have the same disclaimer. I don't think I will find a solution to fix that exact problem. My solution was to have the 4x 100 watt rally light kit installed Plenty of light there!

I saw several of these on eBay all with the same disclaimer: "High Beam Function On Locked Position Has Been Disabled, Only Able To Flash High Beam". I'm guessing the high beams are too bright for DOT certification. You're going to have to get creative with your wiring to make them work. Good luck.

And unless they actually have the DOT approval on the lens and housing, they are illegal, despite what they might say in their site.

All kind's of poor information on their site. Like they find nothing wrong with HID upgrades to housings and lenses designed for halogen bulbs.

Not trying to pile on gloom and doom but the reason for the "high beam flash only" may be that the housings can't handle the heat of full time operation. I'm not a big DOT fan so I'd be more worried about the housings melting. May be time to try and get an explanation from the seller or manufacturer about why the lights won't allow full time high beams. Good luck.

I agree with you Dave. On my BMW Z3 I have an HID setup in my stock halogen reflector lenses. There is a cutoff on them and they do NOT dazzle oncoming cars.
