I looked for UM coverage for property as it pertains to Michigan. Could not find it. Makes sense as MI is a no-fault state. Your ins. pays for your own car. It is absolutely irrelevant if the other person has ins or not.
You wrote "in nearly every state", well, even you believe this does not apply everywhere.

I am questioning you because I am finding info that contradicts what you are saying. I am no ins. expert but I grew up in Michigan and I have had a couple of claims, both from being rear ended. I have spent some time in court and ins. offices getting my claims processed. I think you might be applying Maryland law to this Michigan case.

Yes, Google search. I looked up what UM means in Michigan. Every hit I got said it is for injury, not one mention of property.

I could be wrong about all of this, but I am just reacting to what I have read. If this is not true I will say so here.

As I said, in nearly every state. As Klayfish had already explained, Michigan is one of the rare truly no-faut states.

Again, there is such a thing as UM Property Damage and it does apply in most states. You said there isn't such a thing and I told you there is. I wasn't talking just about Michigan.

I reviewed my posts. I do not see where I wrote "there is no such thing". I copied and pasted the definition of UM In MICHIGAN. It says it is for "injury". Nowhere did it mention property. You have to apply the laws and coverages for the state the person is in. Don't mislead people.

When I said hit and run is considred an Uninsured Motorist claim, you said that is for injury only.

And again, I'm talking in generalities as most of the readers on the thread don't live in Michigan, as you don't. I have not been responding specifically for coverages in Michigan.

If you'd like to continue this ridiculous debate, you can continue it alone since you are obviously trying to be obtuse.

Okay so update, yes I am even more pissed now.

First off my estimates were $750 at three places and then $913.

Second, I am going to the police tomorrow to file a report and have my insurance go after them since they didn't want to pay a cent.

Third, the parents were complete garbage. They didn't want to pay for the damages but I have witnesses and the 11 year old girl admitted to the accident and the parents still were trying to intimidate me by saying if you take us to court we will win. I guess they went to court a year a go because their girl and a boy were throwing rocks and hit someone's car in on going traffic and the person took them to court but she lost because I believe she said the lady who's car was hit, talked to the girl alone and that's illegal.

But to the point, I said, "How would you have liked it if someone hit your car and they said no I won't fix the repairs?"...she was stumped. I said don't worry I'll see you soon. That was that.

Before anyone gets down my throat trying to argue from a stupid side, I know someone will try it, I said I have three full witnesses and the little girl admitting she did wrong(also the plastic reflector from her motor bike).

Also the funny part was that the mother at first didn't want to let her husband know because he is "F***ed up," she told me(she meant like crazy, not mentally). She tried her hardest to intimidate me but I looked at her like she was stupid -__-.

P.S. What goes around...comes around.

Having independent eye witnesses is priceless when there is a dispute. Good for you that you found them ! If you or your insurance company ends up pursuing them, they could very well be the difference between successful and unsuccessful litigation.

Yes, This is my last post on this also. I was trying to give the best info I could find pertaining to Mich. Ins. And yes, UM in Michigan appears to be for Injury only. You specifically shot down my comp. claim and inserted UM claim. How is this a generality? This is a specific case in a specific state.

I wasn't trying to talk in generalities, I was trying to give some usable info.

I'd reply to that but I'm busy handling an Uninsured Motorist Property Damage claim.

Personally, from someone who's been doing this a long time (just like CR&PW&JB), if small claims court is going to give you peace of mind, then give it a shot. Otherwise, for that small amount of damage, let your insurance company handle it. File a police report and get witness info, your insurance will use it. Like I mentioned before, check your policy to see if you have an endorsement called Broadened Collision. If you do, you won't pay your deductible anyway. So in that case, your car gets fixed and you can get on with your life.

I'm 99% sure there is no Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage in the state of MI. Yes, in very simple terms, uninsured and underinsured coverage allow you to pursue a claim against your own company because the at fault party has no coverage or not enough. For instance, someone runs a red light and critically injures the person in the other car. If that red light runner only has $15k in injury coverage, then the injured person would go to their own company to make a claim for their injury. The rules can get complicated and messy from there, but that's the general concept. It varies by state. Many states have this coverage for both physical damages (cars) and injury. Some don't, such as my state of Pennsylvania. We don't have UM coverage for property damage here.

Oh, and one other fun little fact about MI. To make an injury claim there, you have to have a very significant injury or a family can recover for a fatality. So you don't get many of those frivolous lawsuits where the person wasn't really hurt but went to an attorney who advertises on TV that they "Can get you paid". I wish more states were like that...

I think more pictures are required of the carnage here... because I'm not seeing it at all... I see a piece of plastic slightly dented in below the bumper bar and a piece of plastic popped out... where's the metal piece almost touching the wheel? I don't see how that's $700-$1000 to fix... was the car on the street or tucked up in your driveway? I'm not trying to sound like a D-bag, but the "damage" looks superficial/ non existent. more pictures!!!!

Great advice.
While I hate paying money for something that is not my fault, is the money really worth the pain and time?
File the insurance and as you said, what goes around comes around.

But the place I made the appointment with popped my bottom grille back and bumper so it looks good till I take her in Monday. Also their are chips and a dent in the bumper and all the tabs are good which thank God for that. Hopefully the picture uploads and y'all can read from that.

Ah, that is more like it! Still, I would be a little upset as well. People are schmucks....

Yesterday I saw a lady in an older Mercedes hit a car as she was pulling in. She got out and looked at the damage (a small scratch to the metal) and proceeded to leave. I called for her and asked her if she was going to leave the people a note to which she said "it is only a small scratch". When I told her that to fix it would likely cost several hundred dollars she about choked. I then told her to leave a note or I would contact the police and the owner. She wrote out the note and then I wrote down her information and put it in my car just in case.

It is only a small scratch so why should I care? People are stupid....

Good for you ! As a claim rep who handles about 50 hit-and-run claims per years, I appreciate what you did !

Absolutely hate jackasses that don't care about other people's stuff that maybe they value A LOT!!! I love my car, I'd love to drive a big rig and hit their car or better yet a tank.
