Satellite ECU updates...???
Satellite ECU updates...???
I was just wondering the other day, when thinking about folks taking their Mini's in, and subsequently getting a new flash for updates by the factory...
How come they just don't do it via satellite? I know XM radio isn't standard anymore, but it would seem that this would be an easy way to ensure the latest software/firmware is loaded across the Mini Nation, without having to have an owner bring it in for the update or wait for warranty/maintenance work...
Just send out the update, and the next time you power the car down, you get a notice and a chime. If you don't want to do it at that time, just ignore it (and it'll repeat each time you shut the car off). If you acknowledge that you do want the update, the new code is then flashed on to the EEPROMs in the car computer.
Just thinking out loud here folks....
