Next MINi model?

Very speculative at this point I'm sure, but since I'm considering getting another MINI sometime in the next year or so now that a new dealership is actually going to open and be within reasonable driving distance, I'm wondering when the next MINI model will be released? I would hate to buy a car in a year only to have the new one come out shortly thereafter. Of course I know there are upsides to that but I'll be leasing so I'm not super worried about little issues that come with new vehicles.

So...rumors? Any MINI insiders heard anything about a timeline?

Thanks for the info!

The rumor is debut next year as a 2014 model. The model designation will be F56 for the hatchback.

For the cars based off the hatchback there aren't any real significant changes for 2013 (and those cars are already coming in). There are some pretty significant changes for what should end up being the 2014 models. They're basically totally redesigned and will be 3rd generation. Comments on the physical changes aren't super optimistic. Most notably there's more overhang in the front to accommodate new Euro safety laws. The spy shots of the interior show some pretty significant changes - but none have been terribly easy to see anything or had a terribly completed look to them. They could very well just be mock-ups. The caveat here is that if you wait you'll be getting a car that's new from the ground up that will also look slightly different.

As far as the Countrymans, there's the Paceman (2-door version) coming late this year, as well as the JCW version of the Countryman. 2013s of the regular Countryman haven't started production yet, but no real changes are expected. Any potential changes for 2014 are pure speculation at this point, and I haven't seen anything solid.

Based on what has been rumored and leaked so far, I'm hoping to jump in and grab a Roadster with the new interior style -- and maybe engine -- but before they have a chance to redo the body to match the upcoming F series.

Thank you both for the information! I'll be looking at a hardtop S, so it sounds like I'd be better off waiting if I'm wanting to get the new car. It doesn't sound like it will be very long from now anyway and the car I'm currently driving ('08 328i Coupe) isn't exactly awful to keep a little while longer.

I do have one area of apprehension though. Is MINI likely to start going the way BMW is with their 'lower end' models and putting desirable things into expensive packages? We're about to order and lease an X1, which has a base price of around $31k. We only want to option the car with Bluetooth (standard), HIDs ($900 option), and the panoramic roof ($1k), but in order to do that you have to add the $1200 lighting package and $3900 premium package, which bumps the car to over $36k! I *really* hope MINI stays more a la carte than that!

They recently opened a new dealership not far from where I live. I've got a dealer less than 5 miles, so the new one didn't have all that much appeal. However, they had a huge inventory when they opened their doors and I suspect they gave some pretty good deals. So if you have a new dealer coming, they should also have a good inventory and good prices.

I apologize Porthos for forcing you to read this. Please, feel free to move along

I appreciate the info. I've been out of the MINI world for a little while and was thinking we were getting close to the release of a new model. Rev I do hope the new store brings a large inventory and good deals but I would honestly be surprised if I could work more than $1k off the MSRP of a new car.

$1K off is better than MSRP!

As for what's ahead, the folks at my dealer have heard all kinds of rumors, but nothing "official" from MINIUSA. Funny how once all the bugs and flaws are worked out on an engine/transmission platform they up,and change everything.

Here you go all that is on Google. Not to include the threads here on NAM about all the rumors of the new generation.

Jeez. Such hostility. Not what I'm used to seeing in my (admittedly very short) time here.

Some people get really irate about repetitive threads, rather than just not clicking on/posting in them.

There would be less repetition if the search function here wasn't so atrocious. Also, car forums, by nature, are going to always have new people showing up asking common questions. Porthos, I don't know why you waste the time and energy being indignant about it.

Thanks for the post. It's good to keep everyone talking about the next gen every now and then.

Also, can't find the link - but I seem to remember one rumor that the 2014's might come out earlier than next fall.
