The Revoked MINI Build Thread

Here is the build thread for the Revoked 2011 MINI Cooper S Convertible.

How it looked at Test Drive:

After I said I'd be back the next day, and told them what I wanted, MA sent this while I was driving up:

And finally, when I got home later that day tucked in the garage:

Also went to the tint shop today. My guy, Travis, does an excellent job. He also loves to have people watch him while he works which to me is indicative that he is not going to rush through my tint job. Here are some shots of the work being done.

And finally how the car looks at home now. It's sitting outside in the sun to let the tint cure.

Looks nice! Do you happen to know what kind of film he used? I'm leaning towards Huper and Wincos.

My son owns a window tinting business here in hot, sunny Florida. He used SunTek and Llumar brand film. He defiantly does not recommend 3M for windows -- overpriced and not as good for cars. What he does recommend is that whoever does the work has been, and will be around for a while and uses only film that has a lifetime warranty for both material and labor. Oh, and he won't use anything darker than the law allows because in some jurisdictions the "authorities" will take a razor blade to film that is darker than allowed.

Here in north Carolina you can not take a razor blade to tint. It's called injury to personal property. If you want to know how I know, pay close attention to the silver car in the picture with the blue graphics

Thanks for the compliment guys. I believe its Johnson or llumar brand but honestly I do not know. The guy that did it has tinted a few vehicles for me and has been doing this stuff about 10 years.

Same in NY except here it's criminal mischief and auto stripping

I've never seen so many pictures of a convertible without having one of them with the top down!

Revoked,

I was stopped in NC because, in my opinion, I was driving a brand new SUV with dark (but legal) tint and FL plates. Sat on the side of the road (US 17) for almost 30 minutes. Was sent on my way without so much as a "have a nice day". Just because it isn't legal, doesn't mean it isn't done. I have many friends in law enforcement and while they would never take a knife or razor blade to an illegally tinted window, they know it's done. Usually to kids driving tricked out Civics and similar imports.

I feel for those who have to keep the streets safe. Clearwater Beach used to be notorious for kids cruising with sterios blasting, windows blacked out and generally being a menace to society. Noise ordinances and strict enforcement of tint laws has helped.

Stay safe out there and enjoy your new ride!

Thanks Rev. We do stop a lot of NY and FL vehicles, ESP new and very old beaters for interdiction purposes.

I haven't had a chance to take some top down shots. Washed it up yesterday and had to wait for the top to dry. Well, figured I'd take shots today. Looking at the radar-- thiiiiiiiinking not.

I've always been a fan of the viper stripes myself, they have a certain something to them that the OEM sport stripes lack.

...ever consider blacking out the bonnet scoop? Food for thought...

It's on the list

Di-noc isn't the cheapest but it is probably the best stuff out there. Doing everything in stages.

So the dealer put on stripes that you then removed?

But you do have good taste -- your convertible is looking more and more like my roadster.

Retired Rev - yea I like bonnet stripes and got them free but didn't like the white trim on them.

So today, I went to Durham nc to meet up with Jeff from Tar Heel Minis. I picked up an enamel badge and Jeff showed me how to install it. We also put on a couple decals and then went for a nice ride around Durham/Cary/Jordan Lake NC.

When I got home it was on. I pulled the grill and headlight and tail light trims. Out came the cans of plasti dip and about 2 hours later I had plasti dipped the headlight trim, tail light trim, grill trim, side scuttles, and did the black belt line mod. Also installed the actual Size decal. Pics to follow:

Got bored and picked up a spare license plate from work. Had some scrap carbon fiber vinyl and a decal from my local mini club. Made me a front plate to go along with my carbon stripes.

Saturday was a good day for the Revoked Mini.

Met up with rake8x10 from Tar Heel Minis and we convoyed to the Cars and Coffee in Cary

We parked and had some awesome MINI's with us:

After Cars and Coffee I took a long sunburn-equipped ride home and snagged a few more pictures:

I also blacked out my mirror caps when I got home, but no pictures yet.

Lookin good

Just a thought- What about tracing the S on the side scuttles with a razor blade and taking the plasti-dip off of them and let the red S show through?

Attempted to cut out the side S on the scuttles, but it wasn't working well. Considering getting the stickers made and going that route over the plastidip.

Also went and helped another TarHeelMini member remove his front grill and plastidip his chrome stuff on his roadster.
