Mini Broken Seat Class Action Suit

I just got off the phone with MiniUSA about the number of broken seats that are out there. I started the conversation with them about a recall.

Of course because my mini is out of warrantee they say "sorry".

I think its time for Mini owners to stand up to have this issue repaired.

There are a lot of issues with minis that are just dumb. But no car should ever have a seat that brakes, at least not a manual seat.

Who else wants to be part of the Stand Up Because we Can't Sit Down Seat Campaign?

Did your seat break? Did you fix it or live with it? What was the cost to fix it?

I don't know if this will turn into a NHTSA complaint or a class action suit. But something has to be done. Seats should not break.

I'm right there with you regarding things that should not break on a car. See my thread about the airbag connector "warranty". But prepare to get lit up around here by asking for a warranty extension, recall or class action lawsuit fix. "It's a seven year old car, you knew they had problems when you bought it, you should have to pay to fix your own car, how long do you expect them to fix it for you, etc." Just don't be surprised.

That said, my seat broke, kind of. It was just snapped out of position so I took the inside lever off and put a giant crescent wrench on it and popped it back into place. But if there are enough actual broken seats due to lousy design there should be a lawsuit or NHSTA recall.

Seats are a potential safety issue. IMHO, this is the sort of thing that could be a compelling reason to do a recall.

probably more people with broken airbag sensors= no passenger air bag, 2000 for a new seat bottom the same part was recalled in BMWs but apparently bwm doesn't give a damn about mini passengers....

good luck to Yall

To clarify, by "broken seat" (very vague, exactly what is broken?) the OP was referring to this: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...at-broken.html

Meh. My seat was 'broken'. Came here, found a solution, fixed it. Problem solved.

@Slave to Felines - Having your seat not recline fully (the OP's issue, as well as mine) isn't a safety issue, it's an annoyance - especially in the passenger seat. I've seen and heard of plenty of broken seats in vehicles. Mechanical things sometimes break. Fortunately, this 'break' is temporary and fixable in virtually every case I've heard of.

But hey, at least this is a more concrete issue than Birdman's 'Nav does not work' class action claim.

Seems it was ninjamini's issue going back to 2008, when it was still under warranty: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t-recline.html
Did MINI refuse warranty repair back then? I wouldn't expect MINI to take responsibility at this late date.

Oh.... I thought the OP meant that part of the structure of the seat had failed, and the seat was no longer in one piece.

"Nevermind." (--Emily Littella)
