car computer for maintence info

just curious how many people go by the car computer for your maintence. i was looking at mine and stated i needed to change the oil, front brakes, rear brakes in X amount of miles. i've never had a car that gave me this kind of info. so should i go by this to change things, or just use this as a guage and be ready to change around the specified time. thanks.

You can easily do a periodic visual check on your brake pads. Everybody drives differently so brake pad wear is unique to each. As for oil change time: A popular school of thought is to ignore the computer, what does it know, and factory/dealer advice, easy for them to say. Most will agree on regular change interval at either every 5K or 7.5K miles depending on which side of the toast they butter. I'm a 5K person just because. Also, check your oil very regularly.
