Going to the JCW from the S upped our insurance by $100/year. That maybe because the new one is newer and more expensive as well as being higher performance. I don't know how typical that is, we're relatively low risk drivers.

I don't expect any difference in maintenance costs, both have the extended maintenance plan so scheduled maintenance is $0 for at least 6 years.

Just looking at for sale ads, it seems that JCW don't hold thier value as well as a MCS. It looks like you only get back $.30 on the dollar of the cost difference between the JCW and the MCS for the same year and mileage.

Thanks for these responses. If one can expect to recover 30 percent of the JCW premium, only pays $100 more annually to insure a more valuable car, and has no greater maintenance costs, there is not that much cost to going with the JCW.

Larger insurance and maintenance differentials would have caused me to hesitate to pull the trigger...Next step, test drive!

UGH!!! I still cant make my mind... I have some time also... when I spoke to MINI dealer out where im going to be moving to... they tell me I would have to order it and it would take 8 weeks.. no big deal... I have looked at other car manufacturers... but I STILL REALLY LIKE THE MINI... HARD TO EXPLAIN TO OTHERS!!! road Atlanta will be 45 min from my house and barber track is not that far away... I want to ride her on the track.... =) as well as be my commuter... I like the fact that the JCW is covered under the warranty and if i do go MINI i will get the extended service plan.. =)
Has anyone bought a JCW recently.. I hear that certain things come standard on it.. more than previous years....

We bought a JCW a few weeks ago, ordered in April. What do you want to know?

Though now any new ones are going to be 2013s, and that wasn't on the configuration yet last I looked.

@monte11974, if you are still looking, I'm selling my 2007 Mini Cooper S in Rochester NY for $13,400 OBO. It's a very neat and well kept car, loaded with features and I've been the single owner. If you are interested, check out the details at http://sites.google.com/site/2007cooperforsale/

My dealer has a sweet JCW Roadster, silver white with red stripe, red trimmed grey leather seats, red accents on the interior panels, etc. Very good looking car and priced at $39,750.00. Being a '12 it might be slightly discounted? The least expensive S Roadster on the lot (and not nearly as good looking) was $32,000.00.

By my calculations, that's almost $8,000.00.

But what the heck, it's only money!

This same dilemma is faced by those trying to choose between a Justa and an "S". I went with the "S" because I didn't want regret not going with the added power. If it comes to pass that the "S" isn't spunky enough I guess I'd consider trading up in a few years, but I really doubt that will be the case.
