Rear Brake Issue

First off, this Site is awesome. I spend hours just reading and taking in as much knowledge as I can for Mini's.

I have a small delimma with my Left Rear inside pad is grinding and you can feel how it's damaged the rotor. My first thought is that the Caliper is sticking. Has this been an issue with Mini's? I saw some people had issue with Right Rear but nothing about the left.

I want to try and replace the rotor's and pads myself, especially with the great write up that OctaneGuy did, I feel that I can replace these fairly easily.

Does this sound like a sticking issue? The outside pad on the left rear wheel has well over a 1/2 inch of pad left.

Thanks in advance!

Could be the caliper is sticking on the guide pins, the piston is frozen in the caliper or the inside of the e-brake cable is corroded on the left side.

I don't know if it's an issue because I only have 19K on my 2006 MCS JCW.

I have 98K, but I got this car in Oct. and the dealer said he replaced all the rotors and pads.

You may not get anywhere, but I would take the car back to the dealer with that information and inquire about what you feel is an improperly done brake job.

I thought about that. I may call them and discuss it. I put about 15k on the car since they sold it to me.

New pads should not wear out in 15K, and should not wear unevenly. The may tell you to get lost but clearly something is wrong. Maybe it is not their fault, but it cannot hurt to ask. Maybe they have made a mistake and will do the right thing?

Update - I found a coupon from my local Mini Dealer for Rear Brakes. Took the car to them yesterday and they informed me that who ever installed the current brake pads did so incorrectly. They also informed me that there were several other issues that need to be fixed with the car. Thermostat leaking, Front End suspension parts, Line to Steering rack is leaking.

I called my warranty company to find out what is covered. Absolutely none of it. Come to find out, the Used Car Dealer who sold me my car changed the warranty company from the one I originally signed up for. When I brought this to their attention they claim the one that they changed to is better, but I signed up for a Premium not a Mid Level coverage, which I thought would cover all of this. Premium on the new Warranty would cover it.

The UCD is telling me that they'll replace all the things wrong, as long as I buy the parts. But they can't even install rear brakes correctly, I really don't want them doing Suspension and Thermostat stuff.

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

I'd have to agree, if they screwed you on the warranty that would cover all that at a real mini dealer, they need to 1 fix your car 100% free, then correct the warranty issue for future repairs. best of luck!
