If you have comfort access, the battery is replaceable, not rechargeable. I'd try and replace the battery, or at least switch the batteries.
I had the opposite problem- doors wouldn't open but the car started. When I brought the car in, they said they had to reset the key. My SA had never heard of it before and said there was nothing I could do.
Good luck.
Here's my post from the other thread:

Here's my post from the other thread:
I took my MINI in for, among other reasons, one of the remote's buttons were not working. The SA noted that the car would start, but none of the buttons would lock/unlock the doors or the trunk. When I picked the car up, the remote was fixed. This is what the invoice said:
"transmitter was placed in hold mode, wherein buttons must be held in order to activate their functions rather than pressed briefly. ... Test plan removed hold mode and asked for verification of operation...."
My SA had never heard of this before. He verified with the mechanic that I did not change some setting to put the key into hold mode, nor could I have have fixed the remote. Nor would the buttons work if I held them down, as noted on the invoice.
Anyone else see this before?

Do you have Comfort Access? Then the remote has a replaceable battery. If you don't have Comfort Access, then the remote is recharged by the car. Im not saying its the battery in the remote, but that's the first thing to check is you have Comfort Access.
To hopefully help clear this up...if you must put the key fob in it's slot to start the car, you do not have "comfort access" and the battery is not replaceable. In that case you will have to got to a dealer.

Is your key a fob like this

Does it have to be in the dash slot for you to start the car? If so, you do not have comfort access and cannot replace the battery, it recharges while driving.
Or - can you start the car with the fob in your pocket? If so, you do have comfort access and can replace the battery.
But it sounds like in either case you will need to go to a dealer.

U're saying i need to program my key?
I'm not positive, but I think the key can only be programmed by a dealer.
Then again, I don't understand why the fob would let you start the car, then stop working. I have never had a problem with either of my fobs.
Can you call a dealer
maybe they could help you over the phone.
