Citroen Brings PSA (MINI) Engine Up To 256 Horsepower

So it seems that Citroen has taken the MINI PSA engine up to 256 hp, in their DS4R concept car. It would be nice if the new MINI JCW GP would reach close to those numbers.

MINI/Mini has never been about brute horsepower but it seems the engines are falling a little behind in the range of HP for these smaller engines. 256 HP GP would be insanely awesome... if they did that I may have to sell my soul to buy one!

Interesting, I would like to see what they did to get it there then possibly bring that over to the MINI.

I wonder how much engine life you sacrifice for that kind of output.

If it is built from the factory like that there should be no difference as they built it with longevity in mind.

I would like to see what it does with bolt ons and a tune. Since 256BHP is easily achieved on the current R56 engine. I would like to see something more along the lines of 300BHP or 270whp.

Would love if they are offered the above car in the USA. Great looking car.

Probably drives like a pig. Too much power for the corners out a FWD.

Then rides like crap when you hit a bump. I can handle that but, not everyone.

The funny thing is, if MINI announced availability of a 256 hp option, everybody on this forum would be excited and nobody would say "probably drives like a pig".

Different handling characteristics then this particular Peugeoot we are discussing. Look at the Ford Focus ST as a comparison. MINI would probably handle the same because it was made to handle from the get go not a econobox built for comfort then modified to handle better.

I agree, but i feel like this car is designed with some sort of motorsport design in mind. I dont think it would handle horribly.

You are right Boosted, it was developed by Citroën Racing the same group that made Top Gear's favorite hot hatches the DS3 Racing and the same division that made Sébastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen DS3 Racing WRC cars. I guess "Racing" is Citroen's equivalent to MINI's JCW or BMW's M division.

It probably will handle great but, I am not holding my breath mostly because it will never come to the US because are government hates its people and doesn't trust them to drive anything.

I'm just hoping that at least 240 of those horses make it on to the GP. Don't think Citroen will ever make it to US, we did have Peugeot and Renault for a short time. It would be sweet if MINI just spec'd the GP engine to 256hp, but really doubt that.

Yeah from everything that has come out about the new GP don't hold your breath for 256 or 240. It looks like somewhere around 220.
