General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
the last few months she has been threatening to stall in exactly the SAME SPOT, today she made good on that threat. It is literally only two minutes after I leave work and at the stop sign where there is always traffic waiting as it's 5:00pm. The threat to stall would occur, then be fine for a week or so. She did this about three times. Today....STALL...slapped her into park, as folks waited patiently behind me, and she started right up and continued on with nary a problem. She has 24,660 miles, AT, non S. What is going on?!? Calling the dealership in the am. Anyone have any ideas? Also, no codes were thrown, no lights came on, no chimes, nada....
Just returned from The Dragon where I experienced not one issue...
Thanks, guys! Unfortunately I can't get her in until next Saturday. Hope she behaves until then!! Really don't want to have to test out Roadside Assistance!
Found upon googling it's not very likely it's the fuel pump. Could be idle issue, oxygen sensor, fuel injection system, low auto trans fluid, moisture in gas...geez now I'm thinking I need to take a day off work and get her in sooner. But, as stated this has been a very gradual problem...
I had a VW New Beetle 1.8 Turbo that would act like that when the MAF was going out. The difference is that it would be hard to start once it did stall. I would vote that one of the sensors is going bad though.
Talked to Mini service. They want her in sooner, so taking her in Monday. Can't do a Saturday, as Technical Assistance is not available Saturday. Plus they can't give me a loaner without a diagnostics scan. Yea, we are thinking it's electrical. Sooo weird it happens at the EXACT same intersection each time....
There is another thread that talks about idle rpm's dipping sharply upon stopping. Seems this is an issue with 2010 Mini's. One guy said Mini simply adjusted the idle. Hope the cure is just that simple! Anyone else have this issue?

where are you taking her? what dealership doesnt have techs on sat.?
Hi, C! Baltimore. They said they needed "Mini Technical Assistance" which is only available weekdays . Asked if I could drop her off Saturday and get loaner, was told they couldn't diagnose on sat. and can't get a loaner without a diagnostic . So may miss a day of work. Is this "kosher"?!
thats odd, you should have dropped that your a C3M member (we get special treatment, usally), or just bring it down to MoCo
BTW, I may send a customer your way. One of my works vendors loves my Mini. He is a motorcyclist and wants to ride the Dragon so bad. After he saw my pics, he is VERY interested in a test drive. He is a car enthusiast, so a Mini would be a perfect fit for him!
if he comes down to MoCo for a test drive have him ask for Scott, he's an awesome MA he's been working for MINI forever and has sold tons of DCMM & C3M members their cars!

I had a similar problem a while back. It just suddenly stalled after threatening to die a few times. The dealership, Moritz, couldn't find anything wrong with it and decided that it was fuel related. It has tried to stall a few times since then but so far it hasn't actually stalled again. I'm keeping a close eye on it. Good luck with yours!

Sitting at dealership, just was told same thing. They are putting crud b gone in her to clean fuel injector. Buying some as well, to put in every other fill up. They also recommend Exxon and Shell gas, which is not convenient for me and WAY expensive!

Nothing found, assuming fuel issue. Put in Fuel System Cleaner and bought a bottle for fill up after next. Did get discount on the cleaner. Thanks for your help!

If it ends up being bad fuel, going forward get some Checron Techron and add a bottle to the tank every 3K miles. Been doing it for some time now and so far (knock on wood), no issues like stumbling or wanting to stall.
I primarily use Chevron gas as well. It's convenient and there's a station right up the street from me.

Thats what they put in her. Also bought a bottle and will add after a couple fill ups. Thanks!
Bad gas. Try to stick to one gas station and use that only like Shell for example. My car did that a few times and after I stopped using Speedway and BP, Shell became my primarily used gas station, no problems since then. Good luck!
