When I installed mine last May, I cut some circles out of an old rubber inner-tube and put them between the shield and the metal of the hood. This was primarily done so the shield did not scratch and expose metal of the hood. My shield has been tight ever since.

old thread, i know. but does anyone know if the heat shield slots on the top side of the scoop, or the underside?

 

Any issues with the NM titanium heat shield?? I'm looking at that one or the M7. I hope they make a difference for performance and doesn't choke the turbo with heat. My scoop is warped so I'm not concerned about it and think of it as a badge of honor lol. I'm more concerned with the intake sucking in hot air.

 

they install into the top side (fits nicely into it perfectly)so air still enters through the scoop and into the area of turbo for cooling and deflecting the water if any away from the insulation. It really just absorbs the heat so the hood doesn't.

 

The heat shields that are being installed above the actual turbo ...I would be careful with ! There are a lot of posts on this if you search....some have had melted lines and valve covers because it dissipates the heat to the surrounding area under it rather than around it.

 

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about!

 

Well and of course everything is plastic under there so who knows! I did read posts with pics though and there was some serious melting, I have to add too though there were some who have posted that it hasn't happened to them. Even when they used the heat shields...so it's a gamble but I would steer clear (just my 2 cents)Replacing valve covers and lines can get costly.

 

thanks for the answer. also, i have to replace my scoop because it's warped. do you think it would be better to install the heat shield while the scoop is removed, or better to install it with scoop inserted?

 

It is literally a 2 sec job, and the heat shield itself fits into the grill of the scoop so u will need the scoop in place in order to attach.
