Flat tire

Well my wifey called my at work yesterday, told me she had a flat with the warning message on.She was able to make it to work.I guess the run-flats do work.
So I picked up her car and drove to a nearby Goodyear dealer.
As luck had it,the puncture was in a non reparable area.the tire only had 4500 miles.Had to suck it up and buy a new Conti.
The dealer was nice enough to send a driver to pick the tire up about 45 minutes away late in the afternoon.
The damn things are exspensive!

Run flats are very expensive. For me AAA or some kind of roadside assistance is a much better (and cheaper) alternative. The other thing is that they are no less flat prone than a non run flat. On top of that they ruin the handling and ride of any car. Just a thought.

Well we have AAA but that would have been no help. She was able to drive on the freeway with it flat so they do work.
With a regular tire your stuck wherever it blows.I guess the only good thing about them is you can keep driving if its not shreaded.

I appreciate your convenience in being able to drive further. But, runflats are prohibitively expensive. For you, they work. For me, BMW could have easily rerouted the exhaust on the "s" and had a spot for a spare. While I am a Mini owner for the second time, the runflat issue is the one thing that I dislike about Mini and BMW. " To each his own".

Well I'm not saying I like them, just saying it worked this time.Did not have much choice but to buy one.
I already thought about replacing them with non runs.

The knowledge you seek is in my sig - New runflat tech !

As for "non repairable area" - any run flat is ruined when driven on flat.

A run flat tire gives it's life to possibly save yours.

For the price you probably spent on that one run flat you could have gotten 4 new tires that are non run flats.

I think it would close. A good all-season will run $100 or more.

MiniM4O - only problem going away from run flats is no spare. That is unless you do what I do. Bought a spare and rim (matching what's on the car now), lowered the back seat and laid it in the back.
Problem solved.
At least for me since I never haul anyone in the back seat.

Summer tires are great for Florida, Texas and hell.

Not so good for the North East, North Central and North West unless you do the tire swap mambo.

I run all-seasons in Colorado. They work well enough.
