Road Kill.......
Road Kill.......
This morning on the drive to work a chipmunk ran into the street, stopped when he saw Oliver and then, at the last minute, decided to dart across the road after all. I had already slowed down and scrunched myself all small inside the car (like it helps) trying to miss him but.....I heard the thump of hitting the little guy. Checked the rear view to see if he was laying there or had run off but.....no sign. Watched the road behind me over bumps and RR tracks but....no chipmunk. I looked for him stuck to the car when I got to work but...no chipmunk. Is there somewhere underneath that I should be checking where he might be lodged?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I had a similar experience about a year ago with a squirrel. Saw it run out I slowed and swerved. I didn't feel a bump or anything. Checked my mirrors and didn't see it in the road. I figured I had missed it and continued on my way. Met up with a friend and his dad about 30 minutes later. The dad was checking out my car when I got there. Before I got around to the front he was asking me if "that" was real or what. Not knowing what "that" was I walked to the front of the car to find this:

sometime last year there was a possum under my car. i was parking in the small plaza across my house and i was going to move the r56 in and when i was reversing the car i felt a big thump. i stopped and looked around thinking 'wth was that?'
well i continued to back up and noticed the possum, right in the middle of the parking space looking as if he was having his last gasps of life, cuz he didn't last long afterwards. lol

Probably not related, but as I was driving home this evening, I saw a group of chipmunks heading into a local attorney's office. He specializes in injury litigation.

You folks are funny....I do keep checking for the thing....if it jumps out at me or I get served with a subpoena I'll let you all know.
Miniblucabrio....I saw your photo on the monthly photo contest. I really was afraid I'd find the chipmunk hanging off th MINI somewhere. Glad I didn't cuz I didn't want to touch it if it was.

As a matter of fact, we are doing a run this Saturday evening to celebrate our 3rd BIRTHDAY! Meeting up in Bel Air fir ice cream at Bloom Brooms Dairy, then doing a night run in the twisty back roads! I will be there! Join us! Where do you mainly motor?! I live in Carroll County and work in Frederick.
I suspect the little critter was either stunned and got away, was flung off the road before you could see what was happening, or you just plain missed seeing where ever he was on the road. While you would think you could see everything in the rear view mirror it is easier to miss a little chipmunk then you might realize.
Last Saturday on the way to my parents on a back road I was following another car when a big old porcupine appeared in the middle of the road. He had been struck and killed by someone long before the two of us happened along but by the time he cleared the underside of the car in front of me I had no chance of swerving so I did what any normal driver would do....flinched and lifted my *** up a bit. Must have worked as I did not hear or feel a thing. But I figured I must have parted the quills on that porcupine with my exhaust tips.

I live in PG County and work in Rockville. I haven't done much motoring yet since I just got my Mini, but I have done a few runs around the back roads near Bowie and Annapolis and I absolutely love how responsive it is, especially in the bends! This is also my first stick-shift, so I'm having a lot of fun with it overall.
