Mounting Hella 200 Driving Lamps to Gen 2 MINI

Hey all,

I am trying to find a way to get my HELLA 200 driving lamps to mount to my newly acquired 2009 MINI. They fit perfectly on my '06 but getting them on the '09 seems a bit complicated. I have to get new mounting brackets for them and the labor will be about 2 hours since the grill has to be trimmed.
Just curious if anyone out there has ever successfully had this or something similar done to their Gen 2 MINI? I am trying to avoid purchasing the newer lamps but it is looking increasingly as though after all the trouble, the cost may be similar.

Many folks have made their own mounting brackets (see my gallery). It's not that difficult if you're the least bit handy and your stock grill doesn't have to be modified. Try a search in Gen 2 electrical and interior/exterior mods.

Another question- can the lamps only be mounted to the honeycomb-style grille on the newer Minis or is there a way to keep the (nicer) chrome grille in place?

I think the travel time from Florida to Vermont might be a little excessive. The lights can certainly be mounted to the oem Justa grill but I don't have any personal experience with that installation. I recommend posting your question in the R56 electrical mods forum.

Yes, it would indeed, just a tad ; )
Thank you for your feedback. Happy motoring.
