[Ecouterre] Carmina Campus Upcycles Mini Roadster Parts Into Luxury Handbags

The Mini Roadster is putting the "car" in Carmina Campus, the eco-friendly accessories label founded by Fendi scion Ilaria Venturini Fendi. Launched at Milan Fashion Week, the Carmina Campus for Mini collection comprises color samples, material offcuts, and other castoffs from the production of the British-built convertible—the first open-top two-seater in Mini's history. Under Fendi's direction, a team of Italian craftsmen transformed the remnants into 50 one-of-a-kind bags for men and women, from daytime clutches to laptop briefcases.
“The Mini Roadster inspired me with many materials, like the canvas from the convertible roofs rejected after tests or the small metal plates obtained from scraps of the car body,” says Fendi, who unveiled the lineup at the famed 10 Corso Como store on Tuesday.
Each bag draws its cue from an element of the Roadster. A clutch, for instance, takes its handle from the car’s interior, while a travel tote features seat belts and surplus upholstery. As a token of exclusivity, the interiors are embroidered with a unique number. Prices range from €350 to €700.
