Triumph revival?

So I read today that BMW may be planning a revival of the Triumph brand. And apparently the model that was planned for their first model ended up being known as the MINI Coupe... Interesting.. Although me personally I would like to see how BMW will convince people to buy Triumphs again.. Then again it worked with the Mini brand. What do you think?

Instead of reviving new models how about BMW brings us their smaller 4 cyl and diesel models in 1 series hatches at more affordable prices?

Yes please! I'd love a modern interpretation of a Spitfire or a GT6 in my garage.

Here's a nice example of a GT6. The wheels aren't stock, but were popular "back in the day."

I would love to see a revival of the TR4 or TR6. I had a TR250 and a TR6 back when I was younger and loved driving them.

We have 3 TR4's and one TR6 in the family. Great car. The have to make the new one a roadster. Coupes won't do it. I'm sure it would be at the top of my list for my next car.

Hmmm, maybe BMW has already taken hints from Triumph:

My favorite is the 74 - 76 Triumph TR-6.

Man I loved that thing in high school when it came out. I especially liked the wood vertical dash with the chrome gauges. Just a really neat little Roadster.

Bring them back.... a lot of "old farts" would love to see them---- I think by now the cooling system should be perfected. Worked for their scooter, keep the same lines flowing.

That would actually be a 'copy' of the MGB-GT not a Triumph.

I used to have a GT-6, it was a blast! And I now have a TR-6 in the collection but I much prefer the MG-B's as better built better handling cars - I currently have 3 of these. With a supercharger on my 73 it has as much if not more get up and go than my TR-6.
BMW eventually sold off the MG name to the Rover Group and now MG is owned by the Chinese. But they did retain the Triumph and Austin (not Healey though) names.

I would love to see the Triumph name resurrected in a spots car.

Rumors about a Triumph revival have been floating about for years. Because of this I'll "believe it when I see it." btw, I drove a Spitfire back in the day.

Exactly! I'd love to see the Fiat 3 cyl turbo diesel engines over here, too. Bring on the new micro cars, I say.

I've had a TR3a, TR4a(non-IRS) and a GT-6+.

After reading the article/rumour at MotoringFile, I find the proposed drive layout for this revised BMW/Triumph line offputting. A FWD TR seems just plain wrong.
A modernised(ie-reliable) rear drive TR4,TR5 or TR250/6 would sure be enticing however.

Cars like an old Nissan Z car, or newer cars like Honda's S2000 or the Miata fill the bill quite nicely. No need to revive the car version of the Triumph. Besides, with Triumph motorcycles well revived and doing quite well, I seriously doubt they'd approve use of the name.

I remember the Wedge, ‘the shape of things to come’ TR7.

Aren't there enough choices already? How is the new MG doing?

The rights exist for the two companies separately so no need to consult the motorcycle Triumph brand to get permission. BMW owns the rights to the name. If they wanted to produce a modern Triumph car then the motorcycle Triumph would have nothing to say about it.

I think it might have been Sports Car Market or maybe even Top Gear that once reviewed the car as the Best MGB-GT ever made. I wish I could find the quote.

With or without Lucas? We've had a TR3 bouncing around our family for about 20 years now, it would be really cool to see a modern inerpretation of one, but I can't imagine it would be as cool.

My first car was a GT-6+ and it was a hoot. Except for the positive ground electrical system. A real bear trying to find a mechanic willing to work on it. And I've always loved the whole TR series. A modern version of them and/or the Spitfire could be awesome. With negative ground electrical systems.

This rumor pops up ever few year. I doubt there is anything to it, but I would be in the front of the line if they did revive the name. Mine has been in the family for 53 years.
