Triumph revival?
Triumph revival?
So I read today that BMW may be planning a revival of the Triumph brand. And apparently the model that was planned for their first model ended up being known as the MINI Coupe... Interesting.. Although me personally I would like to see how BMW will convince people to buy Triumphs again.. Then again it worked with the Mini brand. What do you think?
Here's a nice example of a GT6. The wheels aren't stock, but were popular "back in the day."

That would actually be a 'copy' of the MGB-GT not a Triumph.
I used to have a GT-6, it was a blast! And I now have a TR-6 in the collection but I much prefer the MG-B's as better built better handling cars - I currently have 3 of these. With a supercharger on my 73 it has as much if not more get up and go than my TR-6.
BMW eventually sold off the MG name to the Rover Group and now MG is owned by the Chinese. But they did retain the Triumph and Austin (not Healey though) names.
I would love to see the Triumph name resurrected in a spots car.

Hmmm, maybe BMW has already taken hints from Triumph:

Exactly! I'd love to see the Fiat 3 cyl turbo diesel engines over here, too. Bring on the new micro cars, I say.
I've had a TR3a, TR4a(non-IRS) and a GT-6+.
After reading the article/rumour at MotoringFile, I find the proposed drive layout for this revised BMW/Triumph line offputting. A FWD TR seems just plain wrong.
A modernised(ie-reliable) rear drive TR4,TR5 or TR250/6 would sure be enticing however.

Cars like an old Nissan Z car, or newer cars like Honda's S2000 or the Miata fill the bill quite nicely. No need to revive the car version of the Triumph. Besides, with Triumph motorcycles well revived and doing quite well, I seriously doubt they'd approve use of the name.

With or without Lucas? We've had a TR3 bouncing around our family for about 20 years now, it would be really cool to see a modern inerpretation of one, but I can't imagine it would be as cool.
My first car was a GT-6+ and it was a hoot. Except for the positive ground electrical system. A real bear trying to find a mechanic willing to work on it. And I've always loved the whole TR series. A modern version of them and/or the Spitfire could be awesome. With negative ground electrical systems.
