First MINI Now Triumph?
First MINI Now Triumph?
Could this be a dream, to bring back a 2 seater Triumph..
That would be sweet.. Forget about getting a Solstice/Sky for a toy

More retros?

Wow, thanks for the link. As someone who has owned British cars before (Triumph TR3a, MGB, and a MG Midget), the bringing back of another British marque would be wonderful. Like some of the folks who commented on the link site, it would be nice to see a rear drive, but probably that will never happen. I told a friend recently that after I took delivery of my MINI I began to question whether it was truly a British car, for it did not leak any fluids nor did it have any unexpected electrical shutdowns, things that routinely happened before. I could live without the plastic side curtains as found on the TR3a, however.
Thanks, again, for the link.

I tell myself this every time I look at the garage floor under my land rover.
I agree with you though, since my family has owned a nash, 2 triumphs, and 3 rovers.
If they can create a new Triumph with the same attention to detail and commitment to "getting it right" as they did the MINI I think they'll have a hit. I'm not particularly interested going retro just for the sake of going retro, though...it's just that those cars had such a good overall feel about them. Now that basic reliability seems to be more of a given...and that we've gotten over all the gadgets, toys, amenities...and that basic safety is standard (more or less)...I think it's time to turn some attention to the primal driver interface...something that captures the imagination and soul.
Guess my site name says it all for me. MG fanatic. I for one don't see this as anything more than an exercise in auto-show opportunism. BMW has its hands full with other concerns, such as F1 and de-Bangleizing its line of cars. A Triumph might make the rounds at the car shows, just enough to keep BMW's trademark of the Triumph name safe.
Though I like the idea of a return of the Triumph, I'd be more excited if it weren't plopped onto a Mini platform. The two don't seem consistent.
Also, while I like retro aspects of Minis, the design is much more than a retro look. The concept was to build the new ones as they might have evolved if not having gone out of production. This contrasts with the new VW Bug. The originals were designed for low cost over function. The only reason to awkwardly pack new mechanics into a poorly functional body was to go for retro appeal. The natural evolution of bugs would have been a different body altogether; maybe that's what The Gulf was.
