2012 internals different then 2011?-Recall

Have a 2012 S cab and was wondering if the 2012's have different parts for the turbo water pump? The 2012 was not listed on the recall list but thought the 2011 & 2012 were the same..Concerned about the recall. Any thoughts?

Internals typically mean parts inside the engine and the water pump is not inside the engine. Possible that they switched to a more reliable water pump in 2012 hence why yours is not a part of the recall.

Well considering 2012s just went on sale they might have put the new ones in already and are finally sending out the planned recall.

Don't worry anyway its new less chance of something happening then say some of us that own 07s that are just waiting for our MINIs to burst into flames.

My understanding from the previous problems with turbo BMWs and Rolls, it isn't the water pump but the electronic control module that continues to supply the 12v to the electric water pump to cool down the turbo after the ignition is turned off. Apparently the module is cooked by the heat and the circuit board shorts out and starts the engine fires. Reminds me of the issues they had back in 2001 with the control relays that turned on the cooling fans. They had a bad batch from Bosch that failed and caused a bunch of BMWs to overheat.

It is very likely BMW/MINI knew about this issue and already put updated parts in the 2012's while they worked out sourcing parts for the remaining cars along with dealing with the recall (or hoping they can skip a recall...).

Correct. Interesting that it is not the super hot turbo starting a fire but the little electronic module. Go figure.

some of the engine compoents have been changed, I know this cause I was going to buy some parts off a friends car but when we went to out them on my car they One part was K&N Typhoon the sensor is shaped different than that of on 2008. (mine is 2012) The BOV would not work either as the mounting position has changed.

Yes the 2011-2012 LCI Cooper S have different engine design from earlier cars. But the 2012 JCW still has the previous engine design which is different from the LCI Cooper S and is not part of the recall. Sounds like MINI just started using the new pumps in all 2012 cars. From what I have read, water pump and turbo water pumps have not changed between 2007-2012.

Just picked up my new 2012 S Cabrio on Monday (the day of the recall). I, too, thought nothing had changed in the engine from 2011 to 2012. I'm swinging by dealership tomorrow to pick up a couple of things and will ask the MA about this.

2012 Mini Cooper S Recall

Well, I just got a call from my Mini dealership to bring my 2012 MCS for a recall. Something about the sensor that controls the fan after you shut the car off. I noticed that sometimes the fan comes on and sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone else received a notice? I have an appointment on Friday morning (9/28).
