First step...check your coolant level.
A mini, if hot, MAY have the radiator fan run for a short time after the car is turned off...
If the car was not driven hard then shut down, and the fan runs...then it may be a sign of low coolant sometimes...
If it just stays on...then maybe a relay is stuck, or a computer issue..

As I said...normal..........

"When the engine is shut down the fan remains on until the engine coolant temperature sensor indicates that the temperature has gone down enough to safely stop the fan. With the engine off, the water pump no longer circulates coolant, which leads to high temperatures in the engine's water jacket. The radiator still transfers heat from this coolant to the outside air, and keeping the fan on helps speed up this process, preventing dangerously high, potentially damage-causing temperature and pressure in the system."

Not "always" Normal for an 1st Gen MINI......I would not hang my hat on that statement......

Could be a sign of the 1st stage low speed fan not working while you are driving.....ambient air is pushed through front grille through radiator while driving doing enough of the cooling necessary, and then soon as your slow, creep or stop within few seconds the high speed fan or 2nd stage comes on triggered when temps reach 232* degrees.

Since replacing the Aux fan assembly in my 03' MCS at 80K miles, I have not heard my 2nd stage fan come on once, and no matter how hot it was outside......

Over thinking it. Just check the coolant. If it comes on for a minute or so you should be ok but if it comes on and stays on for say 5 min or more you got problems. Don't let people nuke this or you will be chasing gremlins.

My '02 would do that sometimes. Stay on about a minute or less. Never had engine problems at all while I owned the car.

Most cases MINI drivers are totally unaware the 1st stage fan is not working.....I'm know of one MINI going on 6 months now still is in need of a new one. And it's a daily driver. If you find fluids at proper levels I would not over look this. Most of the fans 3 ohm resistors seem to fail around 70-80K miles.

I've got an 09 MCC and when it's hot outside or I have had a spirited drive, the fan will run for a few seconds to a few minutes before shutting off. Our MA says it's normal. I've checked all fluid levels, so I know we're OK. There might be a problem if the fan runs for hours at a time or overnight without turning off.
