Battery
If it's like my 05 MCS, it's in the trunk under the carpet. You'll need a wrench to remove the battery terminals and one bolt ("front" side of the battery), and a screwdriver (large Phillips) to remove a long screw that holds down the "back" side of the battery.
I'd spend a few minutes searching on here about replacement batteries before you head out to buy one. There's a lot of options for batteries that fit Okay, but may require a shim or something for the hold down - if you want an absolute bolt-in that fits exactly there are only a couple options.

Check out the Interstate MT-47 battery. It's a perfect fit for the R53 and is very reasonably priced (list @ $140.95) at $116.95 + tax. Interstate is my preferred choice to replace any of the overpriced and relatively short-lived BMW batteries.
