too cautious?
too cautious?
Hi Everyone,
I basically never take my 3yo for rides in our MCS cabrio for fear the car is not safe enough in cabriolet form. Am I being too cautious? We have a front facing Brittax car seat that fits perfectly in the back. And the roads around my house are the nice country type with hardly any traffic.

The MINI cabrio is a pretty low car, so it's going to take a lot to tip it over. And even if it does happen, those pretty chrome hoops behind the back seats are part of a much-larger roll bar that's well-integrated with the structure of the car.
There's no argument that having a metal roof overhead would be more protection, but even in convertible form the MINI is a safe car for its size.

I have two young children that are my life - love them to pieces - but I would take them out in a convertible without worry.
Technically, a child can get seriously hurt in a bathtub, or walking down a flight of stairs or riding a bike. IMO, taking him for a ride in a cabrio is really no more dangerous than any of the aforementioned things. No matter what we do, life will always bring many perils, but what's the alternative?

There is no right answer, you are the parent you do what is safe. Don't let someone talk you into something you are not comfortable with. Having said that, yes i would take my kids for a ride in your car and do everything in my power to make sure we all got home safely, but there are no guarantees.

Take a look around for posts from Zanary. He has a 2009 MCSC and takes his two children out all the time. He also has a few posts about stupid people on the roads yelling at him, and his crafty replies back.
