Wet MINI

My wife left the sunroof and windows cracked open the other night and it rained all night! I went out to Blue the next morning and found the seats, headliner, and various other parts soaking wet. I hand-dried the entire interior and have since air dried Blue's carpet and mats.

To make matters worse my key fob quit working. Is there any chance it is related to the interior getting wet?

Help!

You may need a new wife...and a new signature.

Also, don't try to start it till you get it completely dried out. You may need to rent a dehumidifier and remove all the door paneling. If the fob stopped working you likely shorted something out or blew the fuses when you hit the unlock button, since the door wiring and everything else was likely soaked

Just to narrow it down, have you tried both fobs? That would at least tell you whether the problem is with the fob or with the electronics in the car.

I bought it used and only have one key. I guess I'll take it to the MINI dealer and see if they can diagnose it. I've heard that new keys/fobs are $ 250!

Last time I saw this happen the guy ended up taking the entire interior out and the carpet to have it cleaned. It may ripen over time. His was ridiculously smelly. Sun baking it with the windows cracked may dry it over time, but you need to do all you can to get it dry as fast as possible, if nothing else for the stink factor.

Good news is that it the carpet is not damp to the touch and I have throughly dried the floor mats. The headliner took the brunt of the soaking and it is also dry to the touch. The bigger concern for me is that the fob quit working the same day. The sunroof, windows, and locks still work with the switches and the central locking but not with the fob.

Does this work?

...........for reactivating keyless entry on a 2005 MC

there is a way with the key in the ignition and all doors closed turn the key to on position without starting the car(all computer systems should come on check engine light and everything),then turn it off and take the key out stay in car, then you have to hold unlock down and press lock 3 times the doors should lock then unlock and it should work. im pretty sure about this if it doesn't work let me know. what happened is someone pressed and held unlock while hitting lock three times outside the car.

I took Blue to the dealership in Birmingham the other day and paid them $100 to tell me they can't figure out why my keyless entry is not working! I guess I'll get another key and see if that is the problem.
