Windshield Replacement Video Must See

I saw this and since MINI's tend to have more replacement windshields than most cars thought it would be informative. I don't see this as "fear mongering" simply because you have no idea if your windshield has been replaced correctly until its too late. Personally I have owned 3 MINI's and have gone through 4 windshields which I think is crazy.

That is crazy. They need some kind of regulation on that.

We had ours replaced at the dealership and they gave us the car back 20 min after the job was done. Nothing about "don't drive the car for 10 hours".

We got our windshield replaced at the dealer twice, and both times we left the car there because they told us it had to sit for one day after installation.

WE ACTUALLY HAVE THIS ON OUR WEBSITE! We want our customer's to know about this. Too many don't and thier saftey/lives are at risk. I am happy to see some of you here had an exp where dealerships kept your car for a day. But unfort too many customers are just told nothing. SO thank you for posting this.

Are there some windshield adhesives that are legitimately quick-drying? The glass place where I go only wants me to leave the car there for one hour after the replacement is complete, but they're insistent about that one hour - no shorter.

I could understand a ten-hour window if the shop is being cautious and thorough, and I could understand a shop not requiring any waiting period at all if they didn't know any better (or didn't care), but the one-hour waiting period was new to me.

Since that video was made, I think back in 2001, there have been much faster setting adhesives, yes some are 1 hour "legitimately quick-drying".

If you are in doubt make the glass place, write in their own writing your "1 hour safe drive-away time".
Does this help?

When In Doubt...

If you doubt for even 1 minute...get a second opinion immediately!! Call up a glass shop in your area, ask them what they would charge you to see if it is installed properly. All glass shops are different, personally we wouldn't charge you, bc you could be a potential customer...but you might get a small labor fee. It is worth it. Then you have 2 choices: get the glass shop to do an R & I on it (this does cost), or have the glass shop write something down on a receipt, letterhead..and take it to Carmax & demand they do an R & I (this should NOT cost you).

Don't take chances this is all about your safety!
