C-G Lock for Seatbelts

Has anyone had any experience using the C-G Lock for your seat belt? My R53 has leatherette seats and sliding sideways in a turn on my seat is becoming a bit annoying. I just want to make sure this lock is worth the money.

Any reviews?

I have 4 of these and frankly, I do not think they work all that well. You have to tighten them quite a lot to make sure you are snug and after that you have to readjust them to get them back on.

And there is a tendency to lose the slide which means the belt is useless if you do. And you cannot get that replacement part. You have to get a replacement for the entire unit.

I have 2 of them. They worked well until they broke. Both of them. Less than a year of use out of them. Skip 'em.

They do tend to work well for most folks. In fact this is the first time I have heard of anyone having problem with them failing.

The problem I had with mine was that it doesn't hold your upper body in place, so for me I was still hanging on to the wheel to keep me in place.

I then switched to the old standby of yanking down on the belt to "lock" it in place and then buckling it. It worked great until it got enough slack in the belt to release it in a turn and I wasn't expecting it.

I now use a Schroth quick-fit for those times when I need to make sure I am not sliding around.

These are used widely by the autocross and track crowd. I have used these for 2 years for these events and for daily driving and no problems. Even with the Recaro seats, I use them. You can't be strapped in too tight when you are doing these thing. I also know alot of people who use them for these activities. Ya you have to pay attention to what you are doing and, yes, you have to adjust them every time you use them. If you want an automatic belt system, don't install them. But if you install them correctly and pay attention when you use them I would expect that you shouldn't have any problems.

If you don't want to slide around in the not-so-sporty-sport-seats that Mini gives you, these are for you.

The release lever fell off mine the third time I used it. The lever is simply pressed onto a roll pin and mine won't stay put. I'm returning it at my expense to see if they will replace it.

I use mine on my R53 daily driver. I initially had trouble with the clamp holding. Once I got it tightened well, it has worked great. None of the manufactured parts have failed and I am snug in my leatherette. Not all mods are for everyone. This works for me.

Cheers!
Chris

I use it and like it. But save your receipt. I have had two break but they were good about replacing.

I had one fail when the lever came off. Lousy construction. I haven't gotten around to contacting them yet, though. Otherwise they seem to work reasonably well enough to keep your butt in place.

I use one for track days. Works fine for the lower half of your body but you still have to hang on because your upper body is not strapped in. Still, it's better than nothing. So far I've had no problems with the quality and even though I don't snug it down too much it stays on my car all the time. For what you're going to use it for I think it will work fine.

I have had one of these since December. I really love it. it tightens your lap belt really tight so u dont slide. upper body movement is still aloud. great for the daily motoring enthusiast.

'Just got an email back from the CG people. Apparently they made a change to the design that prevents the roll pin from coming out. They're going to send me prepaid shipping with the replacement unit, and may (I haven't heard back from them yet) also swap out the other Lock I have for the newer model. So far they seem very responsive.

In the meantime, I checked out the Schroth site and their equipment for the Mini. That's SO tempting.

I think I may have to reconsider! It is great that they are improving their design.

The other harness does sound very tempting, a bit too expensive for ever day use though for me ;D

I'm moving up to a Schroth harness as well for track days, but I agree that for daily use it's too expensive and too restricting. For daily driving to reduce sliding around on the seat the C-G lock is probably the best option.

I received my replacement in a timely fashion. It has a screw securing the release lever to the roll pin.

As loonie as it sounds...the Schroth harness may not be legal for street use...I would check first with Schroth to see if they are DOT legal.

I'm not sure what the legality of it is but I only plan to use the harness on track days. For everyday driving I'll use the seatbelt. It's much easier for daily use than a harness, but for track driving accept no substitutes!

If they are not DOT legal then, if nothing else, you can be ticketed for not wearing a seat belt...if that makes sense Cops love it because it is an easy ticket.

But you are right...the harness is a pain to get in and out of. Plus you can't move (I know, that's the point) so you can't reach anything. The stock belt with the CGs is much better for the street.

I considered using a Schroth harness on the street for about 5 minutes. But it didn't take long to realize it would be a pain in the ***.
