Car hood damaged while servicing

Hello Mini Fans,

I have given my car for servicing at Knauz Mini, and have been told that the servicing team had a hand size dent on the hood. Its a 2007 Cooper S blue color still under warranty.

I am not sure about what I need to do, they offered fixing it, I am worried about the repair appearing in carfax and potentially reducing the value of my car.

Can anyone kindly advise on my options and path for minimum impact?

Regards,
Venk P

Take them up on fixing it. Don't accept the car if you are not satisfied with the repair. A small dent would not be on a car fax report anyhow.

They offered to fix it??? Wowy zowy! See if you can get it repaired at the location of your choosing and ask them what the threshold is of reporting repair of damage. As a side note, I had my MINI serviced at MINI of Scottsdale and I know they put 3 small dings on the left side of the bonnet. They completey denied doing it and refused repair. I drove from the El Paso area to that dealer just for the service and on more than one occasion because I've heard they did good service there. Well, I don't go there anymore...

Thanks for the reply guys,

CoopersGuy - Yes, they offered to fix it. The manager mentioned it is a hand sized dent and offered two choices one is to do a paintless dent removal [which might not work 100%] and other is to order a new hood. Not sure what I need to do?

I know they can and will fix it, what I am trying to cover is the scenario where my car would be undervalued for fix kind of paint work. Any suggestions.

Again, ask what the amount of damage and/or money threshold is for reporting to Carfax so you can make a better decision.

If they offered to replace the hood with a brand new one, that would be my choice.

No, first try the paintless, if that doesn't work to your satisfaction, then get a new hood.

Let they know this is to their benefit (trying to save them money) too.

Paintless can end up perfect and it will always be perfect. Paint can vary and age differently. Much less downside potential if the Dent Wizard gets it right.

I agree there is NO reason to not at least try the paintless dent removal first... I have had two dents one I put in the car and one I have no idea where it came from removed and in both cases you have to try extremely hard to see the spots(they arent perfect but super close so I can deal with it). If you are not satisfied after they do the PDR then ask them for the hood replacement.

Get it fixed on their dime and get a written report of the incident if it happens to ned up on a car fax report . The choices are having a dent and no report or no dent and a possible report .

Thanks guys, I will ask for a paintless dent removal and then if that does not fix let me do the entire hood replacement.

This is such a great forum, thanks for your support.

Those guys are great up there, I've been in the North Chicago area for 5 months and have gotten my 2008 MCS serviced there about 3 times, great, honestly guys who actually care about the cars they work on and the people that own them. Glad to see they are taking care of you, I brought mine in for a sensor swap and they offered to change my keys old chrome painted plastic ring for the new metal chrome ring, just a little thing but awesome of them none the less.

Knauz service crashed one of our MINIs in the service bay (the valet let the clutch slip and rear-ended the car in front of him ). That said, they did fix the repair on their own dime.

I too would go with PDR first, see how it looks, and then if not satisfied have the hood replaced. I'd ask to see it beforehand, also, and take pictures.
