Another ??Good buy?? thread PICS NOW

1st post, so hi all. been hanging out for a little while checking the site out.

2009 Mini JCW 51k miles chili red, black roof, no sunroof, climate control, cloth seats, convenience package, jcw steering wheel.

$20k

Contemplating buying. Drove it, drives nice. All service records thru MINI.

Another thing, if I did buy, would anyone recommend buying the extended warranty or extended 6mo/100k no cost maintenance both would be around $2k each.

Since that MINI is out of warranty I would recommend buying additional warranty coverage. I don't think the extended maintenance is worth the money.

id get it.... sounds like a pretty good deal... the warranty can be negotiated... but its probably worth it since you would be out of warranty with this car.. i would even try to talk them down a little on the price of the car... i almost bought (before someone swiped it before i could) a 2009 factory jcw for 19K... it had 36,000 miles on it... hope that helps...

Minimike, thanks. They are a non comission no negotiate dealer but I was thinking of trying to get them to throw in floor mats, mudflats, armrest, mirror caps, and a t shirt. But warranty is negotiable?

Also, it wont be a DD just a night time/weekend driver so I wont put tons more miles on it.

Oh the decisions!

i definitely got them to knock of almost 1k on the warranty... they mark up the price a whole lot just to make profit... its a fact that has been proven and they look stupid when you bring it up...

Well I bought it, 2009 JCW with 51k. Pretty excited that it already included 6yr/100k service and I purchased 3yr/36k extended warranty. Sorry for the crappy phone pic.

I just purchased a 2008 Cooper S Hardtop with black and white checker theme last week. I have wanted a mini for years and found a deal - the car only has 21,200 miles and it and still has maintenance warranty until July 2011 and manufacturer's warranty until 2012. Of course, they tried talking me into the extended warranty, but I know that I have time to purchase it before the current warranty runs out (if I decide to). I am trying to decide if it is worth the purchase and how much I should expect to be spending - they are telling me $1995 for another three years on maintenance and that it covers a lot. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am in the dilemma thinking about buying the extended warranty (not the extended maintenance) for repairs. Mine expires 8/2011 and you have to get it when the MINI is no more than 45 months old. Considering aftermarket and genuine MINI which is expensive.

Does anyone have suggestions?
I have a 2007 MCS with 15,054 and just had to get the entire sunroof replaced as well as the timing chain and tensioner. I cringe to think what it would cost without a warranty still in place.

i got the warranty because i dont think its a bad idea. repairs can be expensive whether its a motor repair or a electrical/computer (what scares me the most) repair. i purchased the 3yr/36k for around 2k which comes out to be $1.83 per day. in my eyes that $1.83 per day is fairly cheap insurance if I have a $1500 repair or even a few $3-500 repairs.

Also what you can do whether the 3 years or 36k miles end first is, take your car to your mini dealer a couple months or a few thousand miles to prior to your warranty expiring and have them go over it with a fine tooth comb and see if anything is wrong with it so that everything will be fixed under warranty. Service techs are paid on work completed or commission so to speak so the more they find wrong and the faster they get the work complete the more they get paid! Hope that helps in your decision!

OK.... so you have a 2009 JCW with 51k, and you purchased a 3 yr / 36K extended warranty (not the extended maintenance warranty) for around 2k.
That must be an after market warranty, because they wont place a MINI warranty on the vehicle greater than 45 months or 50K. The problem that I see with the MINI warranty is that, let say I purchase a 6 year 75K extended direct from MINI, I am only getting 2 additional years, since it begins on the "in service date" of my MINI. (6 years -4 years =2 years of coverage.)

What is the name of your warranty company. I am shopping around still.
I totally agree, that the warranty is well worth it considering what MINI charges for repairs.

Steve

Little confused about warranty vice extended warranty. As I understand it, the "extended maintenance warranty" is really a service contract so I would have to take my car to the dealer vice a local mechanic to have work done - is this correct? The recommendation is to extend maintenance warranty or not? Any other warranty options besides with Mini USA? Seems like I have heard that there is but I am not sure about companies. This is my first time so please be gentle with feedback if I am coming off as "stupid". I never got so wrapped up in the maintenance program on my Honda Accord, but I think we all agree that a mini is different than an Accord.

"extended maintenance warranty" covers maintenance only such as oil changes, brakes, clutch, wiper blades. I personally don't think it's worth it, unless you go through a few sets of brake pads and maybe a clutch. How many oil changes can you do to make the $1395 cost worthwhile?

The extended warranty on the other hand covers parts and mechanical breakdown like timing chains, starters, radiator, AC Compressors, etc. It is an extension of your 4 yr 50K manufacturers warranty. I am currently looking for one of these for my 2007 MINI that has 15K miles on it and the manufacturers warranty is about to expire (4 years). I would like to extend the protection another 5 or 6 years and up to 100,000. This warranty does not cover maintenance items like the one mentioned above. When MINIs break, they break expensively. I am currently having my entire sunroof replaced as well as the timing chain and tensioner. Luckily the repair is on the existing warranty. Any idea what it would cost without a warranty. I shudder to think. OUCH! Hence the Extended Warranty.

Do you have to get an extended warranty (not maintenance, but the other you mention) through MINI?

I purchased mine at the dealership when I bought my used Mini although it is not MINI extended warranty its some other company and I cannot remember for the life of me what it is. My car is at my shop while I drive my other vehicle for work and haven't been to the shop yet this week but I will make it a priority to go there tomorrow.

You do not have to purchase it from MINI. In fact I am purchasing one through Paragon Motor Club. The Ultimate plan has full coverage and is exclusionary.
They cover wear and tear, seals and gaskets, and start on contract date, NOT the vehicle "in-service date" as the genuine MINI does.
Paragon is BBB "A" rated, the Administrator of the plan is BBB "A+" rated, and the backing insurance company is AM Best and Co "A" rated.

I was offered 5 Yr 100K or a 6 Yr 72K. Both reasonable between $1900 and $2200 respectively. 30 day 1,000 mile waiting period on both.
$100 deductible per visit, not per repair.
My MINI dealer will accept the plan for service.
Interest free monthly payments for 12 months.
I am signing up tomorrow.

Hope that helps.

Steven
