I'd be interested to see if the coverage IS 36,000 miles or if it's 36,000 from the time of delivery. I think it's a strict 36,000. I think this comes down to a dealer-level judgement call. To risk losing a client over 30-40 dollars profit on a service job is insane and any respectable GM wouldn't be happy to hear about a service manager allowing this to take place.

 

I had a "one time" Mini gratuitous repair for a thermostat when I was over the 50,000 mile bumper to bumper and have had my car flatbedded to the dealership 150 miles miles away when over the 50,000 miles tow limit too. This too was covered by Mini. I say that they have been fair. The key may be to ask in a nice way if they'd cover it. I always tell them my mileage when I make my appointment so there's no doubt what is covered at the time. Understanding that sometimes they are miles and hours away, they take the mileage when you call as the barometer.
