The *Bone Stock* Club
Modifiers Anonymous Club
I've recently joined the "Modifiers Anonymous Club" as I sold 3 different highly modified cars last year (Porsche 930, Subaru WRX, and Toyota Supra) and bought 2 new cars (MCS for "daily driver" and Corvette for weekends) and pretty much left them stock (except for 3M clear film bra and the hardwire kit for Valentine-1 radar detector). The only other thing on my MINI is switching out of the runflats (wonderful step us and very good bang for the buck). So at present I'm in the "mostly stock" or the "almost stock" club with my MCS. It is a well balanced package and a lot of fun to own and drive just like it is. Having said that, I totally understand the pleasure (and pain) with modifying a vehicle, too!

I've been autocrossing and road racing for years, but most of my experience is in rear-drive cars - usually underpowered, "handling" cars so I'm definitely a momentum driver. No better feeling than taking down another car with twice your hp!Track wheels and tires are in the garage now, first autocross next week and going to run a couple track days in July to get used to the car and how it handles. I can't wait!
Add me to the bone stock club for now 2002 MCS. only engine "mod" is a K and N filter....I think the car has adequate power for everyday motoring..If it ain't broke, don't fix it...I think performance upgrade can sometimes create headaches, especially since my car is my daily driver...
Bone Stock!
I love that every one of these replies starts with "My Mini is bone stock, except for..." Not exactly Bone Stock, is it? My Li'l Pepper IS Bone Stock, but she's only got 5500 miles on her. It's only a matter of time before I start messing with her.
I totally forgot about this thread! After 4 years of MINI Motoring, I am still a proud member of the bone stock club. My '05 MCS, with the exception of the UJ roof flag and the OEM iPod adaptor, has been left the way MINI intended it to be and loving it!
Should we commend TSR53 to come up with a "Bone Stock" club badge?

Idea
My thought (when requesting the badge be created) was not for everyone in this club to have a "virgin" car. Some mods are understandable. EX: Parcel Shelf, Vinyl Roof Graphics, Vinyl Graphics of any kind, Wheel Change (as long as the wheels are MINI wheels), tint, ipod adapters.
Not Stock EX: Pulleys, Exhaust, Non-OEM Wheels, Springs, Bumpers, Non-OEM Painted surfaces (dash/doors), and painted Graphics
Now lets all be honest and congratulate those who move on and leave the group to MOD, because we all have come to terms with the fact that this will happen. This is the reason that SMOC will never give out numbers. Join if you wish by placing the OFFICIAL SMOC BADGE in your Signature.

Infact, SMOC is kind of interesting as a title for this group. When thinking about this....I realized that by leaving your car stock, it is like having your MINI wear a Smock ( A loose coatlike outer garment, often worn to protect the clothes while working. ) Because if you have anyhting go wrong (mechanically) it can be righted quickly and easily by your dealer)
CHEERS AND HAPPY MOTORING!

P.S. (as if i have not said enough) I had no previous knoledge of this thread when requesting the badge, but I think it is a perfect marrage, although the names to not EXACTLY match....

My MC will stay "bone stock" other then some small none-performance accessories.
I added a pair of rally lights, a armrest is coming as is a rear OEM spoiler. That's about it, nothing more will change. I will also replace (with the exact same) the bonnet racing stripes. Not much more, if anything, will change.
I will never do performance mods. Been there done that with other cars and trucks, I have no interest in doing it anymore.

As far performance mods, I discovered (once I owned my MINI) how nicely balanced and nimble a relatively light weight Cooper was w/ the OEM light 7-hole wheels. Since I prefer the OEM look it added up to no changes in the wheel department. A rear sway bar was considered (and I may still do that someday) but I felt is was not needed for my normal driving and would, in fact, tempt me push the car harder than I really wanted to on public roads. Most other performance mods offered such modest gains (Cooper) I just began to appreciate the car more and more "as is" to the point of fanaticism!!! That and having multiple kids in college.
I guess I thought that if I was going to spend any spare $$$s then I wanted real tangible benefits. To my delight, the more time I spent considering all this, the more time I had to discover the hidden nuances and prowess of my MINI "as is."

Still haven't seen the Procrastinator Club logo.
Well it looks like we have 3 choices, we request a new badge, create a new thread, or have a thread that does not match out badge. I personally don't mind them not matching, you just have to know that if you have the badge you will get questions as to where to find the thread!

Is "bone" stock a regional slang thang?
My input, aftermarket wheels cost dead presidents (cash Spy Guys). The point of stock is showing resistance to temptation... for spending more on the car. Don't admit it, or post pictures *he he*.
And things like the glovebox divider can be removed pronto if required. How fast can you rip off the bling wheels and set the car on blocks?
While I'm at it, a concealed radar detector is up for debate.
Can I join? All I've done to my 05 MCS, besides the OEM "youification" like UJ valve cover caps and LP frames, is a K&N flat panel air filter and 3M front lite protection. Xenons are expensive....
Oops forgot the Honda S2000 stubby antenna that looks so bitchin'
Is this close enough to "bone stock" to count?
If not, then how aboot a "$100 or less in mods" club (all mine, not counting MINI brand, totalled about $98.) Jimbo
