I got my first wave near Forgan, Oklahoma on US 64 out in the middle of nowhere yesterday. Well it's not in the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from there! Wave was from a westbound Blue late model MCS. I was taking the long way home from Liberal, Kansas to Cunningham, Kansas as the Hardtner, Kansas "cuttoff" has curves and 45 mph signs. It was fun at 70 to 90 mph with no traffic, but my fuel mileage went from 37.5 to 36.0.

Strange! I recently bought a cruiser (Kawasaki 900 Custom) and I get waves from everyone except an occasional sport bike rider.
I get waves from very few MINI owners any more; even from the locals in my own small town.

Well, I got my first official wave and smile today. As I was driving to my dealer to have b/w Union Jack mirror caps installed (gift from my MA) a MC caught up with me, I looked at the driver, waved, and smiled and so did he!!!

since this about minis, I just got another smile and wave. As far as motorcyles; I've been riding for about 42 years. I wave at any kind of bike and usually get one back. Sometimes I don't wave; usually just because I was thinking about something else. Not because I'm stuck up. Oh, I ride a cruiser.

Wave schmave...today I exchanged horn honks with an enthusiastic MINI owner in the oncoming lane.

One step above the wave!

The wave seems like its dying off to me as well. I wish that were not the case. For miles I was behind someone in a Mini cabrio today who seemed to enjoy the car, but clearly just didn't get it. Shame.

Had a very productive 'wave day' yesterday. Had to drive from the Trenton area up to Whitehorse Station (about an hour... a few minor twistie-ish roads on my route and almost no highway). Between heading up and back, passed a half dozen Mini's - went 4 for 6 on responses!

I have actually racked up several more waves since I started this thread. I see MINIs almost every single day and most do not wave. I think living so close to a big city most people just use them to commute. They don't seem to get the enjoyment out of them that we do. I'm gonna do my best to keep it alive!

I'm a little bit late to the thread here today but definitely wanted to comment.

I'm a new Mini owner as of yesterday. No waves yet but I did get a head nod from a WRX that passed me driving my Laurel through Charlotte, NC. I'll take that too!

My other car is a Voodoo Blue FJ Cruiser. It will now be my occasional driver as the MINI is just too fun! When I first bought the FJ a few years ago there were not many of us out there and we all waved all the time. Not so much now that the cars are a bit more common. Too bad.

Hopefully I get more waves with the MINI. How could people not wave at another MINI?!

Wave

I travel the Mass Pike (Auburn, Ma to Springfield, Ma) and I see numerous MINI's and only 1 or 2 wave. One time I was driving west on I90 and I happened to pull up along side a MINI exactly like mine. The MINI has Missouri tags, so I slowed to match her speed and give a friendly wave and the look on her face was of sheer terror...she slowed down, shaking her head from side to side, allowing me to proceed. I laughed like hell the entire way home. I guess it's a sign of the time when a simple wave becomes a threat.
Keep the faith, keep on wavin' and motor on!

I always wave!
I must have been lucky, the first MINI I saw after I got mine waved at me. Though I didn't see one for a few days.

But... what is the protocol on passing another MINI on the highway? (both going the same direction) You can't really wave...
This happened to me twice this week. Should I have beeped? I'm always afraid beeping will scare other drivers at 7AM. lol

Yay! I love spotting other MINI's and waving... but in my neck of the woods, we are a rare breed. Additionally, I think my windows are tinted too dark for ppl to see me waving so... I normally have to frantically wave forward through the windshield, or else quickly put down my window and stick my arm out and wave. Both make me look slightly crazy... but I LOVE IT.

Incidentally I got my first wave from someone NOT driving a MINI the other day. They looked at my car, smiled and waved at me. I waved back of course!

I wave, sometimes do my MINI gang sign (which I think people really think I'm insane when I do).

I used to flash the headlights all the time back in the UK. I tried that a few times here and for some reason just ended up dowsing my windscreen

In the Bay Area you'd pretty much have to drive around with your arm permanently out the window....

In the half mile walk I do from the train to my apartment, I saw 4 parked Mini's yesterday.

You dont have to wave at the parked ones (although I secretly do)!

I remember my first wave...ah, the memories...it was on the way home from getting Smurfette and a BRG MC waved at me! I had heard the stories about the waving but to be lucky enough to experience it, I do live a charmed life.

I never stopped waving at MINIs while at MOTD and I experienced a slight depression when I got home and didnt see hundreds of MINIs every day altough I guess it might get old if I were constantly waving (after a year or two).

Well I'm one of the ones who are not having much luck with the wave! I've been waving and/or flashing my lights at every MC I see, but no response
I even pass the same two MC's everyday on the way home and neither of them wave or flash the lights! But, I shall keep fighting the good fight!

Second day of owning my car and I see my first MINI, I'm all excited, I finally get to wave... will I be shunned? Will they wave happily back, will it be a hand raise....

Full on wave back!!!

I got beyond a wave two weeks ago.

It was mid-day when I stopped for food on my drive to Vermont. After pulling in to a Burger King parking lot and intentionally parking next to the only MINI I saw, the driver approached me as I walked in. We started talking about the '10 MINI that I had, versus his '04.

We spoke for almost 45 minutes... eventually I told him to sign up here. He was looking for a real MINI friendship, one I just didn't have the time to provide... wanted to know if I belonged to any clubs or groups, because he had seen them or heard of them existing.

Motor on good buddy. Hope you found what you were looking for.

Heh, I saw another Chili Red Clubman going the other way today. I waved, he flashed his lights!

I got my first wave here in Victoria, BC. Weeks of no luck, but on Friday I pulled up to a 4-way stop at the same time as a classic red Mini with driving lights and a Union Jack on the roof. The lady driving gave me a very enthusiastic wave, all the way through the intersection!
